'Cause, as far as I can tell, no one was foolish enough to go out! Major complement to the self-control of the local riders.
WInd was totally off the wall - sustained 30+, gusts to 50+, all directly off shore. This is opposite of the normal wind directions. I went down to the beach just to see what it looked like and to see if anyone was out. Saw one of the big ironwood trunks toppled over, and wind gusts picking up water off the flat water and throwing it around like it does to the sand when it gets over 20. Not sure what the required wind velocity is to do that to water. Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station (just down the beach a couple of miles) reported gusts in the 60 mph range. Bellows AFB (down the beach in the other direction) also reported wind gusts in the mid-high 50's.
Again, glad to see that no one was out.
(only posted this to counter the numerous stories about obscene conditions and people going out and getting trashed because of poor judgement.....)

Yep, the Kona [southweaterly] winds have been ripping through he islands for days now, and really strong!!! Checked Kanaha Park yesterday afternoon and there were a handful of windsurfers out carving the lefts in some radical conditions. This strong front is supposed to run itself out late friday and will be followed by some moderate northerly winds that should be rideable. Then more variables and lighter Konas next week. So it's going to be hit or miss for the next week or so as far as N. Shore kiting goes. Good thing we got this forum to take out our frustrations on eh!! Be Well...

What's this talk of restraint?!? Kiting has been HUGE on the opposite (kona-exposed) sides of Oahu and Maui the last few days.

LOL! IS that what was going on? All the crazies were on the South Shore?
Yeah, but it was only blowing in the high 20's on that side.....(that's what the weatherman said...) with gusts to 40's. That's do-able. (for some...) and, for them, it would be onshore or along-shore.
Were you out? Was it AMAZING? Or SCARY!

If you didn't catch some of the konas you really missed out. Monday and tuesday were epic. I'm 220 lit up on an 8. On the south shore of course. Looks like it's hanging in there for one more day just not as strong.
