OK GUYS... Thanks again... I did go out this weekend. However the wind Gods where not wonting me to fly... Just to little & gusty winds... Nothing steady!! I did get the kite in the air from the beach and had to work it real hard to keep it up..... Just playing around a little wile there was wind I found something new....!

More less a pretty good wind did come in for a good maybe 2 minutes.. If was strong and I kept the kite high above, sence I was on the beach..... MY QUESTION ? is the kite wonted to travel more that 90 degrees above me... Or it was actaully fying behind me..... And seemed to keep going the stronger the wind got....
Is this normal? Or may this be a sign that I dont have the kite dialed in?

Hi Steve,

it happens, that if it is gusty, that the kite goes over the zenith. If the gust is gone it might stall. The higher the AR the more likey it wants to go over the head.
If it is too often, you should lenghten the depower lines and it will stall less.
But the moment you feel that the kite goes above you, steer it either left or right slightly, so it won't go over and stall. Watch the kite and don't let its stall, also in light winds. Keep it moving slightly or it will stall in light or gusty winds.
Also try to trim the kite differently. make the front lines shorter or the back lines longer and test how the kites react, if it has more power or tends to open its tip when you try to power it up. make sure you test different setups in the water, not on the beach!

Cheers
Toby

if yo're not totally overpowered, you can
pull the bar towards you - then the kite will
get slower and stop to fly so high.
works fine in the water when you're fishing to mount your board and don't have an eye for the kite ... it parks better if it's not fully depowered.

Hi,

With my Fone Mach1 15.1 I encounter no problems, starting the kite in deep water.

I just keep my board (tt 175) on my feet in front of me, pull the center lines less than 1 m while "edging". Than flatten my board, gain some speed and release the lines. Kite flips on its back. Pull one of the outer (steering lines), etc.

What about re-lauch the RRD supertype? It seems to be quit difficult.

I guess it wilbe about the same as the Mach1 since they look like having the same shape (high AR)

Bluesky... looks like a good technique. I'll try that with the 18m next time I have a "chance" to.
What do you mean exactly by *gain some speed* ? Do you flip over the board and swim (move) forward?

Thanks!
j.

I guess that is what he ment.
With the board you can swim faster towards the kite

I know most of the AB users demount the bridles, but isn´t Wipika´s relaunch system still ahead of the "conventional" relaunch technic ? I recently watched some quite skilled riders in Italy/Gargano trying to relaunch their High ARs but after 3 times unsuccessfull attempts it got really physical .. On lakes a fifth line isn´t uncommon at all ..

aloha

the wipika relaunch system is great for low end wind.

if you relaunch a 10m airblast with the wipi system @ 6 bft, grab your board tight - the bodydrag which will follow will be a tough one ...

with the wipi-bridle, you get your kite launched in the powerzone - which is not very funny when powered up.
