Light wind: SONIC 17m unbeateable

The only recommendation I have, is to move to a place where you can get at least 15knots.
Kitelooping and jumping below 15 knot is just not fun. Waveriding is still do-able. And since you can use a surfboard, you can kite with a 13/14m at 10-12 knots.
Big kites are generally slow and have some dragggg.....pushing you downwind. For me sizes 15m going up are useless.

You should hook up with Dr Lightwind. He's in Miami and has a Speed 2 12.
Much smaller than the Speed 2 19, but he does really well in light wind.

I think we are going off topic: the balance among different parameters like power, speed, stability, relaunch ability, kiteloop ability.

There is no way to kiteloop a 17-19 foil (on our kitebeac we have a foil school and we have made different tests) and is very difficult to kiteloop a 16m bowkite as well: with SONIC 17 you can do it and close tricks in 8-12 knots!

Every user of SONIC07 will notice that starting from the 8m to the 17m you will have very good performances compared to the size of the kite. Other brands loose in performances on big size kites like 14-16m.

I remind to everyone SONIC was the first SLE on the market, and one year more testing could be the advantage of such a good 07 version.

I think you and Tone should post some vids up, I don't believe either of you kiteloops a big kite no matter what the make, kitelooping means the kite loops while the rider is off the water!

I just thought i would add this i ride a 2006 14m2 sonic and i weigh 67kg i can start jumping decent at 10knts and keeping upwind on flat water in 7-8knts.If the 17m2 07 is so much better i would be riding and jumping in 7-8knts easily I was fully powered in 13knts big airs with the 14 a pity its to slow for loops

No comment about my review (or any review on this forum), but I would like to clarify that we have no spammer attitude because we only send commercial email to our 500 subscribers and I think you know it beeing italian too. About bushing other brands please report here any post on any forum to support your statement. Take also care of what you write because spamming is illegal and your statement could be pursuit by law.

I think that knowing who's writing about a kite is very interesting for this community especially if he forgot to mention to be the importer of the reviewed brand.

Got the 17 Sonic on Friday, and today was 8 to 10 knots North East with not even a whitecap in sight.
Perfect conditions to see if it is possible to kite in conditions this light.
Nobody kiting, besides one guy doing a short downwind sprint with lots of sining before walking back up the beach.
I weigh 90kgs and ride a 136 x 36 wide board with fliptips.
Must say while pumping I was dubious, the 17 looks so much bigger than my 14 when lying on the sand while pumping, and the wind just felt too light.
A few other kiters standing around watching, wondering what was going to happen.
Launch the kite and surprised at how much power it has, but still say to a few guys standing around that I doubt whether I will be able to stay upwind.
Surprise! I have an excellent 45 minute session, cruising up wind with ease, and even pulling off a few small floaty type jumps.
The thing that amazes me is that it feels and looks so much like my Sonic 14 once its flying, it turns pretty much the same speed, has the same bar pressure, but is 3 sq.m bigger, with a lot of extra power.
I am impressed!
