I never will understand that fear tactic -- "Not all resources are renewable"...Do you have any evidence, or is that simply theory? The greenie fear-merchants have been peddling that tripe for years, yet it seems we find more and more and more oil. We find that lumbar companies have a vested interest in planting new trees, and they grow and grow and grow...We even presently find the earth greener than it has ever been in the relatively recent past, despite pollution.

I am sorry, ya'll can run around screaming "THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!", and run around in your SUVs wringing your hands because of your guilt complexes...I will not.

I will do my part to conserve and support companies who are contientious...I will never trust a politician, especially a self-serving group of them, to solve the problem. It is up to the consumer, not the scumbag socialist liar politicians, to solve the problem with the power of free enterprise and capitalism.

I love these threads... :thumb:

Mulholland, good to see you're back in form, and have as poor an understanding of the planet you are standing on as ever. A bit like these guys. http://www.creationmuseum.org/
In theory, oil is a "renewable resource", provided you have a few hundred million years to wait. Wood, or "lumbar" as you put it, is one of the few truly renewable resources we have, provided it is not taken at a rate faster than it can be replaced.

Here's a copy of an article from newscientist "Earth's natural wealth: an audit" http://www.constructireland.ie/news.php?artID=4063

As for boycotting chinese goods, good luck trying. I'm sure the more you look nearly everything is made in china, or the packaging is printed in china. It is the worlds workshop.
Solutions?
Buy less stuff. So obvious, but an unpopular philosophy in "market driven consumer societies".
Go second-hand, and maintain your gear.
Go local.

For the record, Flysurfers are made in China just like the rest of em...perhaps they are a "greener" option though, less material weight and a longer lifespan?

By the way, In China the only activity with freedom is "entreprise and capitalism".
In China, if you are a bit clever and ressourcefull, you do not put your energy or time on politic, journalism and defence of human right as this is the best path to: lose your job, prison or worth.
If you are clever and ressourcefull you start a company and make money: this is the only freedom allowed by the communist party. The reason is simple, the communist party leaders (or regional king in the regional kingdom) received more money through the taxes on company.

If it wasn't for the freedoms afforded through free-enterprise, the problem would never have the resources to be addressed. It is only because of the luxuries of capitalism that we can sit around and throw money at problems, some real and some fancied...Socialism has never created prosperity, is has a bad habit of destroying it. Socialism and social engineering by self-serving politicians (because they always are, especially the socialist types) always assures greater problems, greater disparity of wealth, greater dependency and greater poverty--there are few, very few, exceptions to this historical fact.

The hybrid automobile (as much a POS and worthless as it is) is not a product of government intervention, but a product of consumer demand. The market is the most efficient and effective way to manage and solve social issues. Government intervention and coerced public manipulation has proven time and again to create, not solve, problems.

There should be a special day set aside for the entrepreneur, the capitalist pig, the corporate devil, where he/she is memorialized for their contributions to the economy, their employment of millions, and their charitable giving to charities including enviro-wacko causes.

Have you been to China?

There are cites so nasty with pollution it rains every day from the fallout. Nothing even close to that nasty anywhere in the US. I'm talking about cities with populations in the millions and no traffic lights. Not the famous cities the media likes to talk about.

How do I know? I've been there many times. My company has built dozens of plants there. All with no pollution equipment installed, because the client demands we delete this equipment. Nowhere can you drink the water. Everything is dumped in the rivers.

The US is not the evil toilet of the world.

Get a life.
That is because the coal factories are in the cites. In the US they are located away from people, thus you don't see them..not too different though.

There was an awesome documentary on Oz Tv a few weeks ago, it was called "Crude".
Strongly recommend everyone arguing here on both sides to watch it.
Then get some literature on philosophy, moderna nd ancient. Especially on Buddhism, and Vedantic texts from India, and compare the info in those old philosophies to what you can find in new science journals, especially those on quantum physics, and chaos theory.
Then decide for yourself what is real and what is not. Maybe the love of money is the root of all evil as in the Pink Floyd melodies moved some of us decades ago?
Maybe its the ego of Us, that craves the power that money brings?
Maybe there is no shortage of anything in an infinite Universe?

I am an Oil Addict, and my name is Steve, and I am very glad the wind blows, and seems to blow even more lately now that it is loaded with carbon atoms!!! :o

Steve
Steve, I personally would rather live with the opportunity to lift myself out of poverty, or sink myself to its lazy level. I find it interesting how gullible the common man is to buying the class-warfare advertising campaigns of socialist politicians. They have simply repackaged Marxian thought "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need"...I need not rehash the unquestionable truth that those who wave the socialist flag are generally the greatest monsters, serving up the greatest suffering to the people they "say" they serve.

I'll never understand how people, every election cycle, tend to vote for the guy offering up the cold plate of socialism, false promises and all. People are so stupid that in one breath they hate politicians, and then when it comes time to vote they vote for the shadiest politicos because they sing the socialist tune.

Greed is good, it is a motivator, it is an innovator, it spawns creativity and incentivizes hard work...socialism does just the opposite.

Well, the fact remains, China has passed the U.S.of A in emissions.

It will get much worse before it gets better in China I would say. The U.S. is getting greener slowly while China pollutes more and more and more. What will the numbers be in ten years? Think about that one for a minute. Not to mention other environmental destruction (damming river valleys etc.) Very little concept of being "green" outside of the west. The more you travel, the more you see how true this is.

I don't subscribe to the notion that so called "developing nations" can be held to one standard while others must be "more responsible". Why? Are we smarter, or superior? Fucking idiot concept.

For those that think they must do everything they can to stop global warming you had better boycott everything made in China and stop going to Walmart.
