August, wind and good beginner spot...

Hello,

I a looking at a few different options for August for a kite trip with my wife. I would like to keep it with in a decent travel distance from us (Mexico). I want a place with wind between 15 and 20 knts but that has some flat water for her to improve and a decent night life/restaurants. She can stay up wind, but want a safe place for her to really learn in a week. I am looking at Las Terrenas Dominican Republic for a couple of days and then maybe Cabarete once she gets more confident. Other options may be:

-The Gorge
-Maui (although a long trip and not sure if its good for beginners)
-Outer Banks (heard it is better in the fall/Spring)
-Any other suggestions?

gorge and maui aren't so great for beginners. super high winds + gusty + some crazy launches + ...

but they are both great for more advanced.

san francisco bay would get you night life and milder winds.

I think most of the caribbean is backing off by then - but maybe still Aruba/Bonaire? I've never been to Brazil but if you search you'll see many love it...

Brazil is, indeed, a wonderful place to learn and to take a holiday, and it is pretty easy to arrive from Mexico. NE Brazil has beautiful and reliable winds - fly to Fortaleza (FOR) then stay in Cumbuco or Taiba. Much further north, and the winds may be too strong for your wife.

The DR has excellent wind in August, as well. Las Terrenas is absolutely more beginner friendly, and has a more cosy and European feel to it. The water in Las Terrenas is gorgeous and, for beginners this is especially nice, has more shallow waters.

If after Las Terrenas you want to head to Cabarete- it's a very cool and relatively easy 3-3.5 hours drive away. Cabarete has a much different feel to it, but is quite a lot of fun, all the same!

August is a perfect months for Cumbuco ... 100 % wind guaranteed and this every day ...

The Cauipe lagoon has flat water and is not crowded at this time of the year ...

Thanks for the info. You both just confirmed what I was thinking. I guess it will come down to flights and price. I will post my decision and will let you know if I need more help on either choice.
