I'm guessing you get one good strike with the sword - so you'd better make it count. Once the hyena is on you I suspect the sword would be nearly useless. When does this go down?
Lets see some vid of you handling that sword. Also need to see the hyena.

I'm thinking my 10kg Jack Russell Terrier could take you and your sword in about 2-3minutes. My 25kg staffy in about 20 seconds

If you won, and the liberal media military haters were covering it, they would call you a war-criminal, they would side with the hyena, and the American people would think you lost.
this is an off-topic thread, right?...

Hyenas are scavengers and hunt in packs.
So I suggest you go up against a dozen or so of them and start by slashing yourself first as an incentive...
As an aside, looking at your mugshot, my neighbours pussycat could take you down.

If you're well practiced with the sword, you would win against a single hyena. Like Spork said, though, your first strike would have to be a disabling strike. Hyena have outrageous jaw muscles, and if it got hold of you, you'd lose whatever part of you it grabbed.

if you get it with your fit hit, then it's pretty much over, guts spilled, or missing head, you win.
if you miss it with your first hit then you'd wish you had opted for something shorter like a Tanto, co it'sgoing to have your arm off before you can turn that sword round in your other hand to make any useful strokes.
you need to think big, something like a grizzly would be more sporting..
