PKRA Fuerteventura!

Postby Toby » Tue Jul 31, 2007 3:18 pm

ok, here we are in Fuerteventura!
The PKRA stop includes course race and freestyle.

The PKRA speed event was last week, so there are some speed guys here: Sebvastian Catelan, Dirk Hanel and more.

We just had our first race!

Bruno Sroka finished first, then Shawn Farley, Sami Gali, Alberto Rondina, Dirk Hanel, David Tyburski, etc

This course is much faster than Portugal, and in the favor of the speed guys.
Two speed tacks, 1 upwind tack.

But it was a great race, 2 tangles with about 35 racers, so that was pretty good.

Here about my race...

I pumped my Vegas06 12.0...wanted to try the conditions before to see what I need...

Sitting on the beach shortly, two bladders lost air...so I had to replace them just before the start...I got new ones from North, so it worked out well.

I took my 12 and the 149 Phantom.
The wind is gusty, and about 14-24 knots.
My start was shit, since I touched the buoy of the starting line...the rules says to do a 360 around it if you touch a buoy...so not to get disqualified I went around it while the field took off...so I crossed the start line being last...but after 100m I was not last anymore, since Jaime Herraiz had tangeld with someone and dropped his kite...

I had a good run, my upwind was excellent. So the combination of the 12 and big board is very good.
I got quiet some guys on the upwind run.
I finished 11th!
That was really good, and I'm very happy about this result!

Now freestyle is on, so no more race today!
But first discipline tomorrow will be race, so I assume we will 2-3 races daily.

Stay tuned for more!

2 races today!

Same conditions as yesterday, I went out on my 12 and the big Phantom.
Of course, one bladder lost air, but I had no time to change it for a new one...so I raced with a broken quarter strut.

On both races I had a good start, and this time I raced really well.
I saw the potential yesterday, coming from last and finishing 11th, so I knew if I have a good start, I can get a better ranking.
I finished 4th and 6th! So it went pretty well!
My setup is nice, but of course I have no chance of winning, the top riders are just too good and really into racing!

The current ranking is:
1. Bruno Sroka, who won all races in Fuerteventura so far.
2. Alberto Rondina, who rides consistently good.
3. Shawn Farley and Dirk Hanel
5. Toby Braeuer (me!)

I have quiet a distance to the 3rd, and not much backup to the 6th...so I need to consistently finish 5th, to keep my position.
This will be quiet a task but it possible. I just shouldn't tangle and race like before with the gear I used the last two days and it should happen!

The girls rock, and some always finish before me...so I'm used to it know!

Currently the Fuerte ranking is:

1. Angela Peral
2. Steph Bridge
3. Susi Mai

Day 3 we didn't race.

Day 4 was bad for me!

The first start was canceled, since the wind shifted and died...then I went to work in the internet...and then after 1.5 hours I just heard race director Olaf saying via intercom: 4 minutes to read flag!

So I rushed out, put on lycra etc and attached lines to my 16...well, we had over 25 knots...so I got spanked in the race!

But, I wasn't last! 14th!

Race 2 was good, although I started last, I came in as 6th! Very good race, since I changed my kite to the 12!

Race 3 was bad again, was last at the start, and tried a new tactic...but didn't work out...so I came in 12th...

So far I'm happy, although I dropped 3 places and now I'm 8th overall.
Dave Tyburski ist only 2 points behind me, so I really have to be good in the races on the last day!!!

Wish me luck, I need to stay in the top 10! But it is close, since until 11th it is pretty close!

Again, I raced all 3 races on my big Phantom.

today the last day!
we had 3 races...all a bit shitty, but still ok!

I scored 9, 8 and 11.

I took my 12 and the big Phantom for the 2 first races. The last race I took a Rhino7 9.0.

It didn't help much!

But: I finished all races, and I was never last!

And: my overall is 9th!!! One position before Dave Tyburski ;-)

And I reached my 2 goals:
1. never be last
2. going to Germany as best German overall ;-)

I'm happy!!! :thumb:

Congratulation Toby!

Can you tell us what kind of boards (directional, length of bidirectional) were used by the first ten male and first five female riders?

Thank you!
See you in St. Peter-Ording
