Bruno Sroka was racing (and winning) at the Aber Kite Cup 3 weeks ago in France with a 5'1 directional quad-fin custom board from Booster (http://booster.surf.free.fr.). This was the 3rd race in the French Championship this year.
I heard that he has several Booster customs this year. I guess he used this gear in Portugal and at the Canaries as well.

I think so. For sure he is already world champion of the PKRA already!

I think it would be best if the board manufactors developed Twintip Raceboards that works just as good as the Directionals. If we want Kite Racing to be a competition where everybody can participate, we have to get some boards that are easy to ride. Here in Denmark we are trying to make different changes on Twintips. First we have made som cut outs and "spoilers".

Now we have made some more adjustments:

2 "centerfinnes". They give a better upwind proformance. This is not a new idea, but it works very good.

"Vario Pads". Going upwind or downwind You have to twist a lot in the straps to get an optimal position. Therefore we are now trying to make the pads twist.

A guy out here(San Francisco) had a center fin board made and used it in a few of the races. It works well but the fin needs to be removed to go downwind. Go for long distance racing not good for course racing.

FYI- The twin tip is not dead for racing. The custom race boards that Underground made for me are great. Point up wind just as well as 99% of the directionals. And downwind is pretty good as well. Boards are evolving just like the sport. We are ending are 3rd season this Thursday. So the sport is less than 3 years old.

Here you can se some tracks sailed with costum Twintip. Lets se some with Directionals so we can compare what goes upwind best.

Unless you are kiting at the same time and place how can you compare?
Tides, winds vary day to day in the same location. How would you compare one location to another.
Some days I can make it out the Golden Gate in one tack other days it takes 20.

You can search motionbased for al-kite-a and find 70% of my sessions over the last 18 months.

What i've noticed while racing is that the top speed is not so important as an average good speed, and the capability of the board to handle choppy water for long time as my legs get tired soon.
We are all focused on the upwind but the races are usually set up with few upwind... it seems that there are more long-distance than real Course racing ?

I use a Garmin Trex 201 in a waterproof bag attached to the same arm ban as my iPod. They say it is waterproof for 30 minutes if under water but after send it back 2 time I started usingthe bag.

During races I use the count down watch to time my starts. I have also check the displays for details when I 1st started using it but now mainly after a session.
