I read in one posting, that the guy, who had to let go of his bar, was called with a very hurting word.
Please be very careful with your words.
It has not been reported that the guy who was doing a trick or handle pass ignoring someone in downwind and then missed it and had to let go. As to my information Silkes kite flew into his kite as he was standing at the beach and then it got tangeled and in a reflex he let the bar go.

It doesn't chance the situation that Silke is dead and no safety leash by him and no quick release by her has been used.

the word has been removed in all postings since it was mentioned on wrong assumptions and doesn't help anyone, neither Silke nor the rider who has to live with this.
I'm wishing him to be able to go on with his life as he did before!

Toby, the fact that he was out without a safety leash caused Silkes death.
Call it what you want.

He can only be if his intention was to kill her. It was an accident. If you are not sure what the term accident means, you can look it up in the dictionary.

I do not blame this guy and wish for him to continue kiting. As for the person who posted that comment - I am sure you would have thought very different if you were in his shoes.

I have seen guys running into others lines quite a few times, and a safety leash would not prevent the accident from happening, only a complete disconnection from your kite will. If someone else gets his kite tangled into yours, the best thing to do is to let go of your kite.

I do not know a lot about the accident, but by the likes of it, it sounds that the guy is pretty innocent. SILKE had the option to fit a quick release to her bar. She chose not to. I don't think anyone is wrong here. If anything, people were unfortunate and maybe neglegant, due to a lack of attention to something simple like a quick release. Has anyone thought about that? Stop blaming the companies selling kites, the organizers, and other people involved in the accident. If you buy a gun and the gun accidently goes off, who are you going to blame? The company who made the gun, the guy who sold you the gun? I think not. Everyone is responsible for their own actions, and it is sad that someone had to die for negligance.

To me it is no difference if the guy was on shore or on the water.

If he used a kite leash the kite would have depowered with an other outcome.
To me that´s the one and only point.

That this guy has a bad time now is obvious but no excuse for the failure of him and other Kiters that practice such style...

It would really be nice if someone who really observed the terrible accident would give information about the real circumstances involved so we can all draw appropriate conclusions for the future.

If there is no discussion about the accident like in other forums nothing will change and loss of life was even more senseless then!

Thanks for the link to the official press release. However, it doesn't seem to be working. Can you double check the address to see if it's correct? Meanwhile, I'll try again later. Thanks~

Leash or no leash.. I have used a kite leash and will continue to do so.. but a few times in Maui I let go of my bar and my kite was still powered and draged me very far and ruthlessly. The lines got knoted at the top and the kite was still powered and would not depower. Sometimes things happen out of our control. Unfortunately in this situation it was tragic.
