which was the best light wind SLE kite in 2007?

Postby flaps10 » Fri Jan 18, 2008 9:53 pm

Now that last year has finished it would be great to Know which SLE kite work in light wind, but not the big mosters 17-20 meters, lets say a decent tube kite to comfortable inflating and play with.
Please mention your weight and board and knots.

Thanks u and be safe. :thumb:

Wind-X monsoonz 10m or 14m were easily the best i flew. the 14m is a goddam machine in less than 10 knots.

Interesting question that has no answer - only opinions....

I opine that the best light wind kite for me in 2007 was my 2006 16m Waroo. Worked better for light winds than any other kite I used in 2007......

I can tell you from experience that I'm had my Thruster 16m out in 9.5 - 10 kts but it was hard because I'm 200 lbs and not that good yet. If above 11 kts here I consider it good wind.

I think 15m Hyper type. It's an awesome light wind kite. :D
Performs like most 12s with power of bigger kites.
I love mine. Hoping it lasts another season.
Already has at least 200 hours on it, and still ticking (yes, we get lots of light wind)

Mattdog wrote:I notice with some new kite brands people are saying, this thing jumps and floats amazing. But I am starting to think that if the profile shape (deeper draft?) of the kite generates greater upward lift for easy jumping, it sacrifices the forward vector of lift that generates a fast board speed. That is not a sacrifice I personally like.

I hear the Era is such a good jumper so I wonder if it travels forward more slowly by sacrificing the forward direction of lift as I described. I can't demo one where I live so I am looking for some feedback.

My waroos have very good forward board speed that I like. This of course also helps produce more apparent wind, the faster you are traveling, and that improves the low end capability of the kite, at least for staying upwind.

So how does the 12m or 14 Era compare to the 13m waroo in this respect?

Thanks ..
I just have found this interesting post, I thing its important to match well your board with your kite, a fast and wide modern board could do it horrible with a grunty C-kite o SLE, a less powerful but more forward-vector directional kite could gain some knots in the way.
Im talking about riding the best combo in 8-12 knot more than that any kite in the market will do it well.

So Hypertype 15 and Era 14 or waroo 06 16 and Thruster 16m, Wind-X monsoonz 14, contra 14 would be the winners.

Wind-X monsoonz 14 is interesting but I´d like to tested before spending my bucks. Until now my distributor dont answer :-?
I fly waroos 9 and 12 and I think a 16 2006 could be a good deal with my next spleene board, but do you think with 83 kg/185lbs and door 59 could ride in 9 knots without working too much the kite?

I think that is possible, yes.
9 knots, good to go.
8 knots, maybe.
7 knots, tricky.
6 knots... NO!!
