Hi does anyone know if real wind at the kite places are a bit more than the wind statistics say? I think I read that some where....... Being in soma Bay from Feb 28 for a week.
Statistics/forecast look okay - but maybe even better?

Usually 1.5 to 2x stronger due to thermals especially at hot times of the year

1.5 to 2 times higher = 100% more??? That sounds like a lot!!
This is only 1st week of March so not that hot. I just hope for 5 beaufort and up........

I found this myself on an El Gouna Website:
Kite weather on the internet
To the wind forecasts of Weather Online and Windguru, which are based on measurements from Hurghada Airport, you can frequently add 1-2 Beaufort for El Gouna.
I so much fear a week without wind, now that I finally have the opportunity to go!

When I was there the French guys at the Safaga school said there was always a little bit more (3 to 4 mph) in Soma Bay than at Hurghada.

my experience is, that if you have in Hurghada forecasted 3+ Bft from northerly direction, you will have enough wind to get out (13+ knots).
And normally Soma Bay has some knots more than Hurghada area.
