Mile Lacs Crossing in Mn

Postby steveb » Wed Mar 05, 2008 2:04 am

The Mille Lacs crossing went off again for the 4th year in a row.
100 kiters were signed up and took part in the race, Rob Evans won the mens ski division and Margret "the Woodette" won the womens ski .Unfortunately during the race the wind died and the snowboarders struggled to make the finish.
Cabrinha,Best,Ozone ,Slingshot ,HQ and Flexifoil all had representatives at the event with demo equipment and provided swag for the prize giving. We'd like make sure they get there props and give them a huge thanks for coming to the midwest.
Mille Lacs is a 20 miles accross lake that has the decency to freeze every winter, it usually has smooth uninterupted winds and good snow. The Snow kite crossing is an out and back race usually in the 30 mile range.Mike Fox has been running the Mille Lacs crossing windsurfing race for 25 years. Last fall was the first race with windsurfers and kiters on the course at the same time. The race was a huge sucess with no troubles and the decision has been made to have a kite and board crossing every year, usually in the last week of september.
The Snow kite crossing will be on again next year in late Feb ,early March, we'll let you know the date in 09, if you want to see how your thighs feel after a 37 mile race put us on your calendar for next year.
The race is usually followed up with a traditional party at the " goose" which some of the hardy manage to close down every year. It's always a great weekend, great people from all over the place and great kiting
