What is a "hybrid"?

I know about C's. foils, SLEs, Bows, and 5th-liers..... but what is a "hybrid"? Some genetic cross between two other species that can't reproduce?

a hybrid is basically a modern C kite...

C shape form with more depower, e.g. 5th line kites, and rounder tips, so the attachment points for the front lines are higher up the kite so it can be depowered.

e.g.: Naish Torch, North Vegas, Best Yarga, Nobile NHP, etc

Sorry Toby but I would have to disagree with you, Torch, Vegas etc are still just c kites.

A hybrid would be like the Airush DNA or last years yarga

Technically speaking:

Bow = swept back wing tips, concave leading edge, supported leading edge (bridal) = Wind-X, Cabrinha, Waroo's and Bullaroo's (Best will object to oppose patent infringement accusations) LF Assault, etc.
C kite = straight or convex trailing edge, only two attachment points on leading edge (except for 5th line which only stabilizes LE shape and for safety; not intended for in flight depower) = Torch, LF HiFi, Flexi Hadlow Pro, etc.
Hybrid = supported leading edge, straight or convex trailing edge, round or rounded off wing tips = LF Havoc, '07 Yarga, OR Rise, etc.

Maybe i'm wrong,but for me a Hybrid is a flat style kite without pulleys on the bar/bridle. i.e: Rebels,Ozones,Vapors.Some more "C" shaped modern kites would be defined like that if they work with a dynamic fifth line.
Four liners with multiple atachment points on LE i define it as SLE's .If they have concave trailing edges and pulleys on the bar means that the brand pays the royalties to Legaignox Brothers so it can me marketed with the name of Bows.
At the end designers brainstorms themselves to came out with a sort of diferent solutions "just question of money/laws" to offer high depower kites

Oh good..... now I feel vindicated in my confusion about the meaning of "hybrid".

So far, I'm counting Toby as the most likely credible source.

Any manufacturer reps out there want to state their claim as to whether or not a particular kite in their line-up is a "hybrid"? The manufacturers are the ones who made up the term, right? So they should be able to definitively state which of their kites are "hybrids". Unless, of course, "hybrid" is a term that's been trademarked by Real... in which case no one can use it under threat of frivolous law suits.....

Torches, vegas r c kites. ozone instincts r hybrids.. perform very close to c kite but more depower. they have 5 lines, and yes the extension points r higher up than a c kite

Waroo and bularoo do not have have swept back wing tips. they have a Straight TE. which makes them an SLE not a bow.
