tacking a directional

Postby moblvet » Mon Jun 16, 2008 8:56 pm

Am still trying to visualize tacking a directional, since seeing a few while racing at US Nationals.
Can anyone give step by step instructional?

There's also this cool vid, tacks at 1:23 and 3:03:

Practicing without the central fin first really helps to 180 the board in your first trials. And don't forget to change feet only when the kite is at zenith.

Good practice!

In a nutshell:

On your switch tack:
slow down a little, get feet in skiing stance (feet parallel to rails), steer the board straight downwind, bring kite to zenith, bring kite over to other side, put feet in new tack position.

On your dominant tack:
bring kite over to other side, follow kite by making a toeside bottom turn, ride toeside for a second, bring kite up to zenith like you're sining the kite, as kite is up (and lifting you), swap feet position

Best description of a jibe in a nutshell, but not a tack.
