What do you think of the layup below, it will be for a speed board so I would like it to be a lot stiffer than say a freestyle board. I was thinking of adding another layer 290g glass to top layer and maybe even the bottom layer, oz measurements are a ruff estimate. I'm using a poured epoxy (Ampreg 22) rail, not going to lap this board don't have the time or skill......just yet . Weight is not really that big an issue with this type of board more of an issue would be where weight is placed and for that I will be implementing an accessory rail system that would allow for extra weight or camera/GPS that sort of thing.
that's quite a lot of fibre, especially the carbon, are they uni's/cloth/biaxial? In my experience a speed board wants to be more flexy than a freestyle board. When I first started building speed boards I went really stiff, then was emailing the guys who make xcelerator speed boards and they said a flexy board was faster, so I tried that and it seemed to work, definitly better in chop, makes a smoother board through chop, so you can hold your edge better and put more force through the board, making you faster. Think that's the theory anyway
The more flex the better it will handle the chop well thats the theroy anyway, the stiffer the flatter the water can be . I suppose I should make one up and see what type of Flex it has and work from there. You never going to have one board that suits all conditions I suppose.
