First board build Final

Postby cjh12371 » Tue Sep 23, 2008 9:54 pm

First board build 132x39cm

2 sheets of 1/4" birch
1 layer each side of 3.7oz fiberglass

Got a chance to ride it this weekend and I couldn't tell much difference between it and a Liquid Force board we were riding. I am still a novice when it comes to riding and not experienced enough to really tell any major differences. First day of riding upwind!

Hopefully the pictures I attached make this post. Let me know what you guys think.

A big Thanks to all who contribute to this website. A lot of the information I used to create this board was read right here and I could not have done it without it.

Nice,

How many hours do have into it?

The only criticism I can think of is....

that's too nice, now you cannot leave it laying around, someone will boost it.

Kudos, well done, applause, standing ovation

etc...

you did good

Nice
congrats

:thumb: better than my first!
Can you say the weight?
Any more feeling on how it rides, when you get the chance?
Just curious...

To answer a few questions;

How many hours?
Too many, basically a couple hours about every evening during August.

Art work?
Just paint and some pinstriping, my wife actually came up with the design.......and she won't stop reminding me of that fact!

Wood core? Vacuum pump?
Yes on the wood core 2 sheets 1/4" birch. No on the vacuum pump, just hand laid the fiberglass.

Weight?
Don't have the exact weight, but it feels about the same as my friends Best Spark.

Ride?
I have only ridden it twice and don't have a lot of experience riding other boards. It seems to do the trick and there isn't any major differences between it and manufactured boards that I can tell, except $$$$. I have about $150 and time into it. I don't really count the time because it is more of a hobby and I enjoy it.

One other note, I had posted the question while building it on how much if any should I fiberglass it. I got several different answers, but I decided to do 1 layer of 3.7 oz glass on each side and I think any more would have been too much. I thought it was way to flexible without the glass and I think it would be to stiff with any more layers.

Thanks again for the comments.

As so many wrote before me, great job! I am looking to build a board myself, but have no idea where to start. Can someone provide some good resources/websites/threads that give a good and/or detailed overview of the process?

Thanks!

I've got a board cut out and ready to glue up made out of 2 1/4 birch layers. Good to hear the 4oz. cloth layup feels good with this construction method.

Nice looking board.
