Resin8 Surfboards

Postby DesRes » Tue Sep 30, 2008 6:14 pm

Has anyone tried them as kitesurf waveboards?
They are superlight epoxy boards with some great shapes.
I picked up a 2nd hand one, a 6' 1" squash tail that had been adapted for kitesurfing and fitted with footstraps. How much had been done to reinforce the board I do not know but, apart from the odd repairable ding, the board is holding out well.
I have been riding it mostly strapless and was so impressed with the board that I recently bought a brand new 5' 10" version of the same board, no straps, just a standard "off the shelf" surfboard.
First impressions were good, superlight and fast. However, only the second time out with it yesterday, powered up 7m weather and I came off the water with super sized heel indentations on the board around the forward foot placement area and hairline fractures along one of the rails.
I've been back to the supplier and sent photos which are being sent on to Resin8. I've still to hear back but am guessing that they are only going to say that I've used the board for something that it was not designed for, which is probably true.
Should it all be considered my own fault I was thinking of putting it into custom board builder to have the deck beefed up a bit. Sure it will put a bit of weight on the board and alter the flex but could be worth doing to get back out on it.
Any comments or similar experience?

the boards hold up great for kiting. if you are jumping on the board, get footpads for the front and back as i haven't seen any board so far that can hold up to major amounts of high impact landings, especially when strapless.
maybe tophat and or felix can chime in on this as i am pretty sure they have been riding the boards quite a bit the last year?

Been riding my 6'3" squash tail for about 7 months now both with and without straps. Seems to be holding up fine. It IS a surfboard so it won't last forever but I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of it.

:girl: Those Resin8 boards are great. :thumb:
My little brother, who is a pro surfer, hooked me up with a nice 6'1" board from the Resin8 Guys. :cooltext:
Most all the north shore pro surfers who have ridden these boards love the way they feel. :hangloose:
I have been jumping the shit out of this board. :nono:
After 300 or more jumps a day it's holding up great. :cool2:
There are a few barely noticeable heel dents in the deck, but that is normal for any surfboard that has been jumped or ridden for surfing or kite surfing. :jump:
Especially if you are doing 30 foot jumps with every variation of landing. :lick:
Just came in from a nice session with double overhead surf the Resin8 works great in the surf.
Oh yeah, I have been riding my 6'1" as a twin fin and it is rippin the surf apart. :boxer2:

Aloha, Ride Safe, Have Fun.

Many thanks for such a positive response Top Hat, looks like I might be in with a chance with my board. :D
I knew the boards are up to the job so there is no way mine should be breaking up on it's second outing especially since my jumps were only over three foot Ainsdale mush.
The fin system is FCS.
I'll keep you posted as to what Resin8 comes back with.... :!:
Massive wind in the NW of UK at the mo.... :bye:
