I'm looking for a long weekend trip to take with the wife, who doesn't kite. February. This would be something where we leave Thursday night and come back Sunday night...2.5 days on a beach somewhere.

For her...beach at or near the place we are staying.

For me...hopefully the option of kiting from this same beach.


The D.R. would be good, except, there are no direct flights from the Washtington, DC area. Thus the travel with layovers is too long.

Florida may be an option but I don't know what part fits the bill for wind and kite fun in a short trip.

Mexico? PR? Anywhere else come to mind?

Thanks for any suggestions. We may just go snowboarding, but it sure would be nice to hit some warm blue water this winter.

I would go to Cancun. Great for the wife and lots of kiting options:
Isla Blanca (north of Cancun), 30 mins south is Point Morelos,
very nice but quaint area 45 mins south of Cancun is Playa Del Carmen.

Very affordable direct flights too and a short flight. Lots of places to eat, shop etc, not necessarily the biggest 'kite destination' but a really nice alternative to a kite specific crowded Mecca like
Cabarete.

Thanks. Flying into Cancun to explore some of the areas outside of it was one of our first choices, however the flights are very expensive. We're looking for direct flights to maximize the long weekend. Earlier, I couldn't find a flight from the DC area for under $650...today, the cheapest that comes up is $768! (and we have 3 departure airports to chose from) So, for some reason that is an expensive destination to fly into.
