2009 SUPERFLY OPEN SNOWKITING COMPETITION
TO RIP AT POWDER MOUNTAIN

(Eden, UT) (January 29, 2009) – The second annual SuperFly Open sponsored by Utah Urban Surf Kiteboarding and Best Kiteboarding will bring some of the world’s best snowkiters to Powder Mountain, March 13 through15, 2009. The event will include three categories of competition as well as free snowkite clinics that are open to the public. SuperFly celebrations and award parties will be held during the evening hours at Ogden’s entertainment district, Historic 25th Street.
Last year the event attracted more than 50 of the world’s best snowkiters with competitors traveling as far as Norway. With the success of last year’s event, organizers anticipate a substantial growth in competitors and spectators this year.
“If you’ve ever watched the colorful beauty of hot air balloons launching, imagine the balloon on a pair of skis or snowboard ripping across the horizon. It will give you some inkling and intrigue of the sport,” said Tyler Tate, owner of Utah Urban Surf Kiteboarding. “It’s colorful, it’s dynamic, and it’s COOL! Charge up your cameras and video recorders and head on up to Powder Mountain!”
The action will take place in an area known as “The Towers” in the Hidden Lake area of Powder Mountain (just south of the top of the Sunrise Poma lift.) Slide rails and boxes are being generously provided by event sponsors. The elevation of that area is approximately 9,000 ft.

“Those intrigued by the sport are welcome to watch some of these top athletes,” said Tate. “The viewing area is wide and open, so folks can cruise on over and take a break from skiing or riding to watch all the action, grab a burger and enjoy the incredible backdrop of the entire Wasatch Range and Great Salt Lake.”
Three categories of competition will be on display – Freestyle, Kite Races and Big Air. There will also be timed challenges hosted by Ogden-based timepiece manufacturer Suunto. Additionally, free clinics will take place each day and are open to the public.
The celebration of snowkiting doesn’t end when the lifts stop running. On Friday night, the Best Bash includes food, drink and music, and the popular “Best Girls Contest” at Ogden’s entertainment district, Historic 25th Street. The finalists for Fridays’ Model Contest will be selected from two preliminary model searches held at Green Street Bar in downtown Salt Lake City. Wilhelmina Urban will be scouting and running the model searches for more local talent while the Green Street bar is excited to be hosting the first rounds in the snow lodge atmosphere on February 13 and 27, 2009. Come enjoy super sexy girls as the showcase the latest in snow wear. Green Street Social Club and Brewskies are private clubs for members.
Saturday evening’s dinner at Red Moose Lodge will feature an exciting multi-media presentation on snowkiting expeditions, including an expedition by Andrew McLean, photographer and author of “The Chuting Gallery” (a Utah steep backcountry ski guide book.)
The event is sponsored by Utah Urban Surf Kiteboarding, Powder Mountain, Best Kiteboarding, Lakeside Resort Properties, Wolf Creek Utah Resort Lodging, Red Bull, and Ogden Valley Magazine. Community supporters include Red Moose Lodge & Spa, Diamond Peak Mountain Sports, Alpine Pizza, Zions Bank, Ogden/Weber Convention Visitors Bureau and G.O.A.L. (Greater Ogden Athletic Foundation.) Contributing sponsors include Drift and The Kiteboarder Magazine.

Opening Ceremony and Best Bash at Green Street Bar and Brewskies Club
We were hoping to save the Best Bash for last, but because of the risqué Best Girl Model Search and contest, we were inclined to move the Best Bash to Brewskies Club in Ogden on Friday night. We know how to put on a party and locals are still talking about the Pray For Snow party we put on this fall, with multiple projection screens, live music, and man made snow falling from the ceiling. This evening will be a snowkite night to remember. The Best Model Contest will be like no other. This isn’t your beach variety Best girl contest, these ladies are local, and will be showing off some of the latest winter apparel, Best apparel, and an occasional Best logo tattoo. Look out Lange Girls. Two preliminary rounds of the model search will be held at the Green Street Social Club February 13 and 27, 2009. These two rounds will determine the final contestants. Brewskies and Green Street Social Clubs are private clubs for members.

Award Ceremony, Dinner, and Presentations at Red Moose Lodge, Eden

Red Moose Lodge is proud to host the SuperFly Open presentations and casual dinner buffet. Andrew McLean, photographer and author of the Chuting Gallery (a Utah steep backcountry ski guide book), will give a presentation of his most recent snowkite assisted adventure on the Bagley Ice Field in the Wrangell-St. Elias mountains as well as highlights from remote polar regions around the globe.
Suunto Challenge

Suunto will be onsite Friday and Saturday leading the Suunto Challenge. During the challenge, you can take one of their GPS watches out for an hour to digitally log your snowkite session. After that hour, Suunto will instantaneously download your data to a laptop. Suunto will be giving two Suunto watches away as prizes for longest recorded distance and fastest recorded speed during the Suunto Challenge. The X9i is wristop computer is also a watch, GPS navigator, altimeter, barometer, and compass. After a long day of snowkiting, you can download your session directly to Google Earth and share with all your buddies. Visit Suunto.com for more information.
