Iceland - May 2009 - Snowkiting Adventure TripHere it is guys and girls, 2009's ultimate snowkiting trip: Langjökull glacier, Iceland - Friday May 15th to Friday 22nd.
We've been quietly running these trips for a fair few years now and have really got it down to a tee. Last years trips were out biggest and best yet, and we plan to make them even better for 2009. There are a lot of snowkiting spots in Europe, but in my humble opinion the Langjökull glacier is THE best one out there. Here's a bit of info for you below:
FridayArrive Keflavik and transfer to Reykjavik
Stay at the hotel Leifur Eiriksson and go crazy in Reykjaviks famous downtown.
SaturdayTravel to the Icelandic highlands in our jacked up superjeep, stopping en-route to pick up supplies for the week. Make yourself comfortable in the luxury timber cabins that will be your home for the week, take a walk around, chill out in the hot-tub, crack open a few Gull beers and spark up the barbeque.
SundayTravel 30 minutes across the barren lower reaches of the glacial gravel fields, crossing rivers of meltwater and ancient lava flows, to reach the footslopes of the 1000 square kilometre Langjökull glacier. Travel up the glacier using our modified jeep to find some fresh powder snow. Launch kites and begin the fun, or help build a dug out snowhouse for preparing lunch in.
Later on return to the cabins, sun-tanned, tired, and very happy. Repeat beer / barbeque / hot-tub sequence.
Monday - ThursdaySee above
FridayReturn home, or maybe stay around for an optional two extra days to do some more partying downtown...
You've basically got gauranteed powder snow (nearly 1000 km2 of it), pretty damn good wind stats, and lessons and gear available if you need it. Nice cabins, nice vehicles and nice people to act as your full time guides for the whole week, together with some of the most remote, breathtaking scenery you'll ever find yourself snowkiting in.
Prices
How much for the trip? £650 including the following:
* All your transport in a jacked up superjeep.
* Hotel on the first friday
* Timber cabin
* Full time guides for the whole week
* Breakfast, lunch and dinner for the week at the glacier
Basically all you'll need on top of this is a flight, beer money, enough cash for a night out, £15 for a transfer bus into Reykjavik, a blue lagoon ticket, and spending money for snacks and stuff.
Lessons can be arranged too.
