Thorn or Thorn FC

Postby Rex » Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:19 pm

I'm deciding between the Thorn and the Thorn FC. 2009, 132 cm.

I'd like to hear from people who have tried them back-to-back. What's the difference between the two? Is the regular version more forgiving in landings? (yes, I'm an old man  )

Cheers

Rex

I know that my buddy Sam Medysky who's on the Naish intnl team rides just the normal Thorn and it does him just fine. From what I've been told the FC is a little stiffer, rides higher up in the water and is a little rougher ride, but obviously performs better. A good board to think about would be the Rocky Chatwell Pro from Crazyfly, it's a lot like the Thorn but in the FC version as it is full carbon and wood core http://www.crazy-fly.com/cf2009/kb_rocky.php Crazyfly is from right near you too!

i have the regular Thorn 130 and have ridden it back to back with the FC.130
both are awesome boards, the FC has a bit better pop, and is somewhat stiffer. if i was riding in butter i would ride the FC, but kailua is pretty choppy so i prefer to have a little more flex.
it rides fast and goes upwind great. i ride on the widest strap setup and love it.

yup, what they said above. The FC is less flexy. As far as I could see they have the same shape, but the flex patterns do affect the ride. So FC a less flex, better, pop, control, awesome board. The regular, more flexy, a little less pop, softer ride, but still with the magic thorn outline....awesome board. I got the FC.

Thanks for your good input!

How are the landings on the two? Is the FC harder on the knees or is it just about the same?

Thx

Rex

I'd say the FC is a little harder on the knees in overall riding...but just a little, but takes it back in control IMO.., landing is mostly about sticking it anyways, so not too different...

No regrets on your part on sticking with the FC?

Not at all!! :-)
I would be probably like either of the boards, but I have not looked back.
I do think you'd be happy with either one.
