'07 T2 14m or '07 Ozone Instinct Sport 13m Help

Postby hobbsla » Tue Apr 14, 2009 10:14 pm

I am trying to choose between these 2 used kites. It will be my lightwind kite and I'm 165lbs (75kg). Which of these kites has better low end? They are about the same price, the T2 is a little bit more.

Thanks

T2 truly light wind machine bow kite, only comparable to Contra 14
Sport 13 hybrid more allround performance better high end
At your weight both will work depends on how light and what boards you plan to go out

Go for the the 07 ozone sport. My 13m is my go to kite. I ride it more than any other. Its perfect!!! I will buy another 07 or 08 when the time comes. The 09's are not for me. If you have the chance ride one.... that will make up your answer.

Andy

PS. The 07's have a big leading edge, and sometimes i think it makes for a more stable kite. Maybe not as high performing, but such a treat to fly.

I agree totally with the other 2 responses (except the 09 Instinct comment) as they (T2 / Sport) both have very easy relaunch, the Sport has light bar pressure and the T2 heavy. Sport is more of an "all around" kite with superior performance IMO.

I used 14m and 11m T2s for 2 years and loved the 14m when learning but once i was good enough to work the kite and use the board better in light winds i could get almost the same low end out the 11m.

The bar pressure is very heavy on the TD2 and you get tired after 30 mins esp if you have gloves on.

Flew my 14m back to back with my 12m 555 and the low end was about the same

The instinct has next to no bar pressure and does not have as good low end as other kites i have tried but i like my 9m 07 sport. Some guys at my local spot complained about the 07 sports low end and falling out the sky in light winds.

You should try both but if its one or the other i would go for the Ozone

Indeed, when reading the posts above, you should give it a try. Always easier said than done.

I know the sports 07, I have 9 and 13 and still very pleased with them. I am picky about low-end (at 95kg you need low end) and I find the sport 07 low-end pretty good. I used to need 8,10,13 and 18m2 in the (not so) good (after all) old days to get the same wind range with inferior results. Either I or the equipment improved massively.

Comments about no bar pressure are obviously made in comparison to kites with very heavy bar pressure. I find the bar pressure fine. Light but fine (I know enough about tandinites with my '04 Fuel 17m2).

Good luck.

The two most important factors to me at the moment are water relaunch ability and low wind pull.

For reference: When I say "low wind" I mean 8-12kts, gusty, inland, mountain lake.

So when the wind lulls which kite will stay in the air better or, when the wind lulls and the kite falls out of the sky ( I know this will be my reality more often than not, but its all I got yo) which kite will jump back up easiest when the wind comes back?

Also I am forced to drift launch because of the topography. And when I come in I must flag out the kite, wrap my lines, and swim in. Anyone have a clue on which kite would perform better at this?

The 5th line (mini bridle thing) and the span line on the Instinct gives me reason to pause. Has anyone found this line setup to be a problem? I WILL be dropping my kite alot (still learning) and I worry that all those lines up at the kite will be a problem.

Thanks again

What do the other guys at your spot use. I purchased a Flysurfer from a guy in Austria ( Neusiedlersee) who used foils for lake riding in light winds.

From what i saw and tested at my spot, these are by far the most better performer lightwind LEI's IMHO,not in a necesary order:

SS T2 14m
CABRINHA CONTRA 14m 2008
CABRINHA SWITCHBLADE IDS 14m 2009
AIRUSH FLOW 14m 2008
NORTH EVO 15m 2008

If you're not more than 95kg,not worth it go for 16/17m Bows/SLE's they are downwind pulling machines and had a very closed windrange......
