really nice vid, but why can't they stay away from having surfers philosophize over ANYTHING.....

"I'm kinda, like, feel really connected and stuff, to this great ocean, and like it's awesomeness, and it's like so great, you realize there is something out there that is really awesome, and since the ocean keeps everything like in-synch it is safe to say we're you know sort of incredible connected to and we have this feeling of you know contempt, and underneath it all there is an over...like an overview of a spirit that hovers over the ocean....it's my portal to nature, it's where I feel like where I came from kind of" (this is not a 100% accurate transcription)

...sorry but a surf movie doesn't really explore the "deeper human connection" simply by asking some surfers....

I believe paddle surfing taps into the essence of human self reliance.
Without any wing to take you around, you are completely dependent upon your swimming ability with only a foam flotation device below you.
Sharks? Big set of waves?

Better swim fast....no wing to pull you out.

I think many surfers are so deep and philosophical about the nature of their sport because each paddle out commits you to a situation that fortifies your connection with nature.....due to having to be so self reliant.
The wave is much more elusive when you have to paddle to catch it.

Kitesurfing is amazing.
And I feel like a surfer who is cheating every time I go out.
We are surfing with the aid of a remote control wing.

And I never paddle out..... to surf ......and feel like I am kitesurfing without my kite.
??

So for many of us surfers----surfing is the root of kitesurfing.
The wing is the extension.
Cheating self reliance?
Possibly losing some of the 'deep philosophy' in the situation?

I think a lot of surfers are opposed to the jet ski ---tow in---- concept because of this.
And a lot of surfers are opposed to kitesurfing because of this too.

And lets face it---it's all just one big experiment to see just what we can accomplish.

I see this cold water surfing video as a celebration of commitment by a small group of unique people who have overcome dark, cold water as the opponent.
You are not supposed to be able to live in that cold water.....let alone ride huge waves and ENJOY yourself.
