Dear Kiteboarder:
On behalf of the members, officers, and directors of the St. Francis Yacht Club, it is my
pleasure to invite you to the inaugural Kite Course Racing World Championship. The event
is to be held August 4-8, 2009 -- when optimal weather and wind conditions on the City Front
of San Francisco prevail. We are looking forward to hosting a memorable event with exciting
competition in one of the world’s premiere racing venues.
For the first time in history, the 2009 Kite Course Racing World Championship title will be
sanctioned by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). From now on, Kiteboarding is on
par with other parts of international sailing as the Volvo Ocean Race and the Americas Cup!
The St. Francis Yacht Club is honored to organize this prestigious event.
The intended racing format will include three days of Qualifiers, where riders will be seeded
into groups and everyone will have the opportunity to race against everyone else in heats.
The Finals, will take place the last two days of the event, at which point the fleet will be
divided up into Gold, Silver, and possibly Bronze (participation dependant) fleets.
The St. Francis organizes over forty regattas each year for all types of competition, from
dinghies to IRC Big Boats, AC Yachts to Optimists, in team racing and match racing for
Championships in one design and World classes. StFYC enjoys a terrific membership, a
superbly trained and managed Race Committee, and an amazingly reliable sea breeze – all of
the components that make up a truly memorable event. We are very excited to have the first
ever Kite Course Racing World Championship on our race calendar this year.
