e-glass to carbon equivalence

Postby aeberl » Mon Jul 20, 2009 7:36 pm

I have glass lamination dialed to the point were I can fine-tune flex patterns by placing more or less glass to certain parts of the board. Now I am about to start experimenting with carbon and am wondering if there is a constant factor that relates e-glass to carbon. Is it possible to say that for example on layer of 6oz. plain weave e-glass gives you the same mechanical propertie as x oz. of 3k plain weave carbon?

matweb is a good place to start.

not likely you will find a fudge factor for laminates.
but they will give you fiber properties for various vendors and grades.
