Bladder blow up: How do I fix it?

Postby esg » Thu Sep 03, 2009 10:29 am

The replacement bladder I used was too long, so I was told by the shop guy to roll the ends up like a "fruit roll up" . I was out for a session and it ended up blowing a hole at one of the ends where the roll was. What's the best way to make the excess bladder at the end fit nicely in the sleeve and not end up creasing, bending, etc, and blowing out? Also, any other leading-edge bladder replacement tips would be much appreciated! I've had bad luck quite a few times! Thx :)

A) tie a figure-8 knot where the bladder should end, then stuff the remaining bladder inside
B) use a warm/hot iron (low steam setting with a sheet of paper underneath for a short period of time, enough to melt the bladder) and make a new seam where the bladder should end

Good advice in the previous post....... I'd suggest also to google ehkites and take a look at their
"how to" section, there is some some good step by step info there. If you have access to an old bladder which is beyond usable I'd suggest you might want to practice some technique tests before trying the repair on your kite.

If you are going to use the iron technique, it works a treat but put some paper beween the bladder and the iron.
