Postby lex123 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 10:22 am

G'day guys, Just wondering if anyone has had a try of the new Naish Momentum and for a bit of feedback on it. Im Particulaly interested in its wakestyle abilities and its Upwind ability. I generally ride in small waves. Any size recomendations or info comparing it to other boards listed below would be greatly appreciated.

bit about me:
70kg 5'6"
Wakestyle/freestyle
average winds 15-25knotts

Board History:
Force Fly 135
Cabrinha Custom 08 133
Cabrinha Custom 09 133

Cheers Alex

Pulled from another forum...

Rider: 105kg, 110kg once I'm wet- competent rider...
Style: whatever suits
Weather: 15-25
Build Quality: 10/10
Satisfaction: 10/10
Disclosure: I know the guys who sell the gear...does that count ?
My Comments:

First impression-
Got the board looked at the footstraps and laughed....the board looks awesome and then the footstraps look like bigfoots white pimped out slippers....spent a bit of time playing around with them though and would have to say they were really comfortable- it took me a while to get used to them but I really liked them after about an hour of riding and playing around. Construction is smooth and clean as you would expect from Naish.

The Ride-
In choppy gusty conditions the board was really good upwind and very quick to get up on the plane, would definitely be one of the better light wind boards I have ridden, absorbed the chop really well and was a very smooth and predictable ride. I was worried that the amount of flex in the board would cause it to be slow but found that the board was quick and very controllable. The board held a solid edge as well as releasing from the water very easily and cleanly, load and release was as good as I have felt. Through the turns I found the board a little grippy and will probably put smaller fins on mine when I get it.

If anyone remembers the red Sol from a few years ago then that is the closest I could compare it to...

Still frothing on how much fun this board was- as a bigger guy I have not ridden a board that suited me so well for quite some time.

Don't trust me though- go try it yourself !

... and another review...

Rider: 95kg,
competent intermediate rider...
Build Quality: 10/10
Satisfaction: 9/10
Disclosure: Liked the 'chav-vy' checked base, reminded me of a Burberry Pram

Bought the board yesterday and went out with it today in SW 18-25 chop. Amazed by how comfortable the board is, loads of pop, and shoots upwind like a dream.
I've just changed up from a Cabrinha Caliber, loved the connection with the board, but those pads were a killer, and it was quite stiff through the chop.
But this board ticks all the boxes, fantastic pads, good early planer, a bit of a looker, and easy to spot fins up!!.

I went with the 134x42 short enough to hold down in high winds, and wide enough to get going in lite winds.

Only one critism, being black, the top of the board shows any scuffs, even got a some dosh off, because when i bought it, it had scratched in the packaging, so if anyone has any tips on getting them out/covering up i would appreciate it.
otherwise an excellent board.

Don't think it happens if you assemble the Grav correctly
