Peter Lynn Charger 10~ got out Sunday in nuking winds 25-35 MPH, gusting higher, doesn't happen too often. C-Street. Surf was overhead , big windswell. Other guys on pump ups were out on their 6's & 7's. I was kind of hesitant at first, but have been out before in these conditions on same size VII-10. I only had one bar size, the standard 60cm ('07) with a long throw and 25 m lines. Launched the idet no problems. Didn't seem to be overpowered. I had a 4'10" stretch directional. As I headed oout throught the lineup, I go a feel of how fast the steering was going to be--VERY FAST. Thsi was pretty demanding and ahrd not to get screwed up or squirrely. I just cruised in and out for a while, trying to smooth outh, but felt pretty gusty and hart to control power-depower, or ride any waves with any confidence! Got a couple jumps pretty good pop and float. Was out for about an hour the did soemthing and kite went inverted! Tried to right it off the water, but that didn't happen. Had to pull the cork and swim in, ending my session - would like to try out on smaller bar set up- think it may have made a big difference. Just my 2 cents...still testing Gary

interesting. How feel the kite when full depowered? there's more power left compared to a recent SLE? Is still well turneable?

PErhaps a 8m would be better in these conditions, isnt' it?

i think u will always have a residual traction on the front lines with the PL kites because of the autozenith, thing u dont have with LEi or foils but htey don t ahve the autozenith feature.

What bar set up did you have? Lenght of depower? Length of Bar?

60 cm bar is Huge!

You get used to very fast lei wave kites and the ten meter charger in moderate winds with a long bar and 25m lines, does not feel excessively quick. You get used to really hucking around a kite through the lulls to gain some power in the gusts in our usual 8 to 15 mph or 8 to 20 mph local winds. In the gusts to forty sort of stuff Gary was actually in that day, he needed the right amount of depower length and tension to catch the kite in a huge gust yet handle the lows. He did not have that. The only way to invert one of these things is to let it jump in a 40 mph gust and not catch it with a little rear line tension. This would be an automatic hyndenberg on a tube kite. Unfortunately was not there to set up a smaller bar and more tension on the rear lines for him. The eight would have been the ticket that day but it is in Kaui with Stan Shiller testing it. His review was on the regular forum page. He really likes the 8 meter charger. They develop more power per size and depower well but do need the longer throw bar and those have not come in yet. Sounds like Gary was running a heap of length for depower and catching the kite in a huge gust would not have been possible with his old set up.
