The Kahoona on the Emerald Coast

Postby lfkiter » Thu Feb 26, 2009 5:00 am

We've been testing the new Best Kahoona here in Panama City Beach, FL the last few weeks and wanted to post some photos of the kite in detail. Most of the guys here in the shop fly the Nemi or Waroo, so it was a treat to try something new. Enjoy the pics below, more to come later. If you are in the area, come on by the shop and fly the Kahoona.

Image
The bag is the perfect size, very easy to fit the kite, nice drawstring, pocket on the front for your keys, cell phone, ipod, whatever. There's a little port for your headphone cable, if you roll with the tunes going.

Image
Back of the bag, very nicely constructed, padded shoulder straps.

Image
Bag with the 09 Redline bar attached. No bar or pump pockets on this bag, but some typical straps for holding down a bar or pump.

Image
09 Kahoona and Redline bar, that's not snow on the ground, white sugary sand.

Image
11.5 is what we are testing out today

Image
New draw string tightener deal, looks stronger than the old one

Image
Getting ready to fly!

Image
Here's the kite laid out on the beach, you instantly notice the "Delta" shape of this kite.

Image
Pumping her up, no EZ Pump on this, we find most people prefer the standard inflation.

Image
They added an extra layer of ripstop to help prevent any wear from the valves on the LE. Smart

Image
This kite feels very lightweight compared to alot of others, these kites just glide in the air.

Image
Kahoona all pumped up, the 11.5 is the "Big Kahoona"

Image
Beefy reinforcements on the ends of all of the struts

Image
Foam bumpers over the top of the struts, lightweight but very protective.

Image
Pulleys on the front bridles, pretty standard

Image
No middle strut on the Kahoona, only 4 struts total, keeps the kites weight down.

Image
Bomber seam on the leading edge, diameter is pretty normal.

Image
Shot of the strut, cool silk screen graphics on the struts

Image
Wingtips are pinched, making the Delta shape, great for relaunch-ability

Image
Kevlar skids on the LE, this part of the kite gets alot of wear during launch/landing, so this helps alot.

Image
Kite is very solid, or bud Rick showing off the Kahoona

Image
The Kahoona in the air, no wrinkles in the canopy, very stable

Image
The white is our favorite color so far for the Kahoona

Image
You can see here the kite starting to roll over and relaunch

Image
And liftoff, winds were pretty light here, about 14mph.

Image
The membrane valves on the struts keep getting better and better. Airtight lock everytime.

Image
Here's a shot of the Redline bar, lots of depower, nice components, we'll have a full review coming soon.

Image
Redline bar on the beach, the actual red line or safety line is pretty beefy, has worked flawlessly.

Image
Same metal insert in the center of the bar as the 09 Best bar, works perfect, no wear or tear.

Image
Soft EVA grip, very comfortable design, easy to see red & blue colors.

Image
Color coded lines, pretty standard on most bars.

That's it for now, we've got some video of the kite in action, as well as a full on review, that we'll be posting on our website soon. I'll post a link to it here as soon as it goes online. If you have any specific questions about the Kahoonas drop me an email or pm.

what is the kahoona like for up wind riding, i saw a comparison comparing it to the 2010 waroo. It showed a trendy graph thingy suggesting the kahoona was not as good as the waroo for riding up wind. if the kahoona is as or better than my 9m atom 08 i would be well happy also whats the lowest wind speed you can stand up on a board say a 138 x 43cm
