surfing the caribbean!?

Postby C_arro » Fri Oct 09, 2009 7:29 am

Hey,
Have three months to spend in caribbean and would like to kite as much as possible where do you recommend me to go??
Have anyone been kiting in goudaloupe, st.martin, st lucia, isla magaritha or barbados? I look for flat water, other kitesurfers (at least one bar where you hook up with other kitesurfers to talk about your session;) and friendly locals? :P Cheap accomendation?

Any tips are appreciated!
Caroline

you can find many locations here: www.kitebeaches.com

Dom. Rep. is a classic to go to. Barbados sounds nice too. Flat water should be awesome in Coche (Venezuela). Cuba is an exciting place to go...etc.

When's your trip?

If its early next year, Puerto Rico is a great place.

check

www.PRKBC.com
for incredible flatwater kiting, uncrowded, beautiful place, great seafood, very nice hotels, guest houses, apartments / kayaking, snorkeling, diving, skiing. 30 minutes from a major city with a big mall, 1 hour from Rincón, world known surfing spot, 90 minutes from Isabela for extreme kiting in waves

www.KitesurfPR.com
right in the city of San Juan, walking distance from the main hotel area, great scene, open ocean spot with reefs nearby for wave riding, super friendly people, one of the biggest shopping malls in states, Old San Juan, and outlets...

Hi Caroline,

I am living in the dominican republic and managing a small scaled apartment hotel for surfers, kiters and other active people here.

We are located in Cabarete which is one of the Meccas of kitesurfing.
The kiting here is great and the conditions are suited for all kind of kiters. There is a special place called la boca, where you have totally flat water. La boca is the rivermouth which gets into the ocean. Apart from that there are a few really good spots also with waves.
The local people here are all very friendly and there are lots of other things to do and to see around and in cabarete. There is even a really good nightlife and lots of great restaurants.
Compared to other places in the Caribbean, Cabarete is probably much cheaper.

If you want to see more information about Cabarete and Kiting check our website www.hookedcabarete.com or just write me an email.

Windy regards,
Hooked Cabarete

Puerto Rico is the Maui of the Atlantic , with steady and consistent wind , world class waves and everything you 'll find on a Metropolis , the difference of Puerto Rico and the rest of the islands is that there's no crowds .... flat water down south and heavy surf on the northern side !!! you wont starve because PR cuisine is amazing , the friendly people and vibe .... in other words you will be enchanted !!!!

Hey there,

I have recently visited St Kitts for a kiteboarding trip. I had a great time. There are lots of spots to go and they have some really nice waves. The wind is consistent and usually above 12 knots. The island is one of the most beautiful I have been too. There is also a great night life there. There is also a school there so there are some other kiters. They have a website www.stkittskiteboarding.com

You can check us out here at Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. We normally kite at Long Bay (which is on the South East side of the island), crystal clear shallow waters with good wind for 10 months of the year. Around the winter time (Dec to Feb) we would get the cold fronts from North American and huge 10 ft waves pound the barrier reef on the north shore that's about a mile from the beach. The thing is this is not exactly a cheap place, but the beaches are very nice.

Check out this video of kiting in Long Bay http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oF5AAlqwVXQ. And if you guys are interested in doing downwinders from the other islands check out this company's website http://bigblueunlimited.com/activities.html.
