Hey dudes and dudettes

i'm in the process of learning to kitesurf after 3 years of hardcore landboarding.

I've built my own longboard skateboards and carbon glass landboard (which i made the carbon/duplex trucks aswell).

So i'm keen to make a kitesurf deck aswell. I'll get some hours under my so i can decide what i would like then i'll dive into a build. Not doubt i'll have plenty of questions.

PS I have a home made vac bagging kit glassing/laminating experience and wood working skills. I've build moulds for vac bagging and presses also.

How have you made molds for vac bagging? What materials/structure is in the mold? Have they bend "open" molds with one mold surface?

my vac bagging moulds have been made from bendy ply with mdf ribs to create the desired shape. Its cheap as chips and works a treat.

your right vol i don't know what i need yet. i'll gain that experince and decide what type of board i want.

in the mean time i'll be researching the techniques and materials used for these boards.

i also have another more abstract project which involves landboarding a beach 50km long then kitesurfing an inlet for 5km then landboarding a further 90km. so i need to develop a kitesurf deck i can strap my landboard to for the inlet crossing.

for this i need a bouyant board thats short and perhaps folding as it will be strapped to my back for hours.. i'm thinking like a surfboard style construction with the wheels of the landboard recessed into the deck.

Molds for vacuum bag traditionally need to be non-porous if you seal the vacuum bag against the perimeter of the mold. Otherwise you will draw air bubbles right through the porous mold and into your laminate. With your bendy ply are you somehow putting the whole mold inside a larger bag? Pictures?

i suppose the first board i'm going to build will be the hybrid board i can strap my landboard too. that is the most pressing need.

i have challenge laid down to do a downwinder of 68km in under 2 hours on the landboard which includes the crossing 2 rivers and 3-4 estuaries.

i'll aim to make a 135x40 twin tip and directional wave board aswell in the future.

I sealed my bendy ply press with urethane. so no out gassing from the ply.
