Vacuum pum vs refrigerator compressor

Postby JandoF » Wed Jul 07, 2010 1:33 am

Hi I'm ready to buy my vacuum pump

And I am looking for a ROBINAIR whit 3 CFM and 1/3 hp for $440.00 dlls
or a budget vacuum pump (refrigerator compressor) for $100 dlls

but just not sure if the ROBINAIR pump its to much for just doing wood-core boards and divinycell cores.

or if a refrigerator compressor its just enough for this task.

did some one knows how much presure can pull on vacuum bag each one of this pumps???

I need to run the pump for 8hrs or more,,,, so the refrigerator compressor can handle this???
:bye:

I think that you may be able to find something in between price wise.

I am no expert, but my friend has been building skis, surfboards and kiteboards for years using a refrigerator compressor. You can pick them up for really cheap and work like a charm.

thanks for your answers!!!

I know its way cheaper to get the compressor,,,

that's way I'm asking if it really makes a big difference?

If the ROBINAIR vacuum have 3 cfm (I don't know what this is) how many cfm the compressor have??

how many negative pressure can generate one pump vs the other???

I want to know because I want to make the better board I can.

cheers!!

Hi,
From my experience refrigerator pumps can generate the negative pressure of about 0,8.
Greetings,

CFM is Cubic Feet per Minute. For sucking air out of a huge bag on a huge project this might matter. As long as you don't have huge leaks in your system, I don't think the CFM rating should be an issue.

I have used a refrigerator compressor and it can pull all the vacuum that 99% of builders would need I think.
