yes, kinda monopoly...sux big time. Bribing some officials does the job!
the options from Europe are flying to Sao Paulo, Recife, Natal, etc, and then up to Fortaleza.
But, from Italy a charter flies...pretty reasonable price, and I think even sport bags for free!
Or from Amsterdam with qxl or so, try to google it.
good luck and see you there!

Hello!
You could check Livingston -
www.laudaweb.it (charter flight from Rome and Milano,
no extra charge for luggage).
Airitaly -
www.airitaly.com. Lowcost, you should pay per kilo for luggage.
As for me it was more convinient to fly with Lufthansa to Sao Paolo.

I fly to Fortaleza 5-6 times a year from Europe. TAP direct to Fortaleza is always the best option. Although you can save up to a 100$ by flying via Sao Paulo, it's usually going to take up to 20-25 hours to fly this route. It's not worth it. The airport Guarulhos in SP is utter crap and expensive, so you'll probably spend the 100$ on food and drinks anyway. Charter flights are ok if you live in the Netherlands, Germany or Italy, but they usually only fly 2-3 times a week and if you live elsewhere you don't get a refund if your flight from your country is delayed and you miss your flight to Fortaleza. Not a risk worth taking. I've also heard comfort is crap on these flights.
As tourism increases to grow in Brazil, I'm sure we'll have better options in the near future.

I heard a rumor that Iberia will fly 3 times per week to Fortaleza from January on.
Let's hope it is true, that it will be much cheaper to get here from Europe...and TAP also has to lower prices...

yeah.....lets see....but iberia is not that cheap normally. In any case skyscanner seems to be one of the best tools for searching.......good luck!!
My experience is that the prices change a lot depending on the time of the day.
