How to find the optimal racing position on your raceboard

Postby jaystore » Wed Oct 06, 2010 11:08 am

Last year I started using a freerace board custom made after testing RRD and NORT race boards.
On both boards I had to struggle with how to distribute weight on legs and I noticed how difficult was to find the best position, not only the fastest, but also the more relaxing to avoid back legs stress.

I ended with this solution I use on the custom made freerace and also surfboard, I think it works great no matter if you need upwind or downwind best performances. I also read that shapers have to test and find straps position on their new products, with this system will be a lot easier.

I also use a DYNABAR PRORACE who helps me to better distribute weight on legs due to the freedom of turning my body towards board direction.

I hope this will help the racing community to find new technical solutions for this young sport.
Technical questions are welcome.

Windsurfing already has the solution - boards are supplied with a choice of footstrap mounting positions to suit various heights and weights of riders (although strap width can be a problem).

I think raceboards will just follow the same system.

Hi Ronnie, I don't think we should compare windsurf and kitesurf and I prefer to keep my mind free of things done in the past. A kite race board doesn't need to connect a sail and this is a big difference.
This sliding system is far different from a multi-position fixed-strap, the sliding strap allows you to change position during race, for example upwind and downwind require different positions. With fixed straps you need to place additional straps but again in wich position? You should also take under account that the position is related to rider's weight and height.

Hi Jay, any price to propose for 2 straps + 50cm of Dyna bar ?
Your site has not been updated yet with your solution.

Have your tried this setup for race board or foilboards ?
The jibe would not be as easy as with the traditionnal straps but I as the 2 front straps can rotate and move.... this would be a fine compensation ....

Hi Euro2, we are still refining the solution to have a very functional product.
We've tried 2 full rails on both sides on 60cm large raceboard.
The jibe won't be different from standard straps if you give to front straps a fixed angle (we are working also on this feature).
The rail is 100cm but can be cutted as you need, for example 2pcs of 50cm.
We think this is a nice improvement and the commercial version will be available within end of the year :thumb:

Foot strap positioning is like the type of underwear you prefer... boxers, tighty whiteys, boxer briefs, hot pants, thongs... personally I don't wear any.

but I do use foot straps downwind...

even if you do have straps on your board now, move your feet around a bit and where you feel best move them there. If you have a good board designer they will build the board around your foot straps. but there will always be times you feel you need them somewhere else.
