Just a quick report from SW Colorado.

Jonny Allen on Cinnamon Pass.
Usually we wait until they plow the road in the spring to kite this spot on the continental divide. With low snow in this part of the state we just towed up there with the snowmachine. We've had some decent days on McMillan and Molas too.
What's the word from other parts of the state? Creede? Grand Mesa? Front Range?
A road trip might be in order.

Did you mention road trip? Yes, you did! Come join us next week we will be chasing the wind in the northern Rockies. November was a record (or near record month) for so many areas of Montana and Idaho. Roll up north for a great week!

Dude Glickster, Way to get after it. We were wondering if you guys were kiting down there, or if all the Durango kiters were holed up at the Ska Brewery.
Road Trip is definitely in order. Have sled will travel.
Windzup,
Brian Schenck

Another high basin near Cinnamon Pass.
On Friday a few things came together for a dreamy session in Placer Gulch above Animas Forks. (Silverton area) The trail thru the gorge above Eureka was hand dug across the dozens of avalanche cones by other snowmobilers. Also the NNE wind was lined up perfectly for these high north facing glacially carved valleys.

The wind is at the viewers back in this Google Earth image. My GPS track shown in Placer Gulch. The green line was a "kite in the pack" powder run. It was so good there we never checked out California Gulch... Yet! (to the right)

High in the basin just below Hanson Peak. (13454')
Thanks John and Jenny for these photos.
A tiny kiter just left of the historic mining cabin. I parked my kite here and checked out this cool structure.
Lots more to explore!

Beautiful shots, Glickster! Thanks for sharing. Next time I'm out, I'll have to bring kites and try to connect with you guys. What epic terrain you have to discover.

Yet another high San Juan kiting spot today. We kited the terrain of the West Needle Mountains that one sees looking east from Coalbank and Molas. The long skin was worth it for the incredible views looking off the edge 4000 vert down into the Animas gorge and across to Pigeon and the 14ers of the Weminuche.
Thanks JA for the photo.
