Anyone know how long a bust rib will put me off the water for?

Lower 7th (or 8th), rib popped by waist harness on Saturday :(

I was out for 5 weeks (started kiting again after 3 weeks...just cruising, that probably also derailed the healing time ), this was a costal cartilage fracture, the lighter bone part, which is less painful than a regular rib fracture.
Take it easy for the first few weeks, no riding :nono:

Hmmm....thanks for that. Guess it could be worse.

I think I'll be buying a seat harness too once I get back on the water until I feel the rib has healed completely....

I guess it could happen with any harnes, and it's not particularly anything to do with it being a Mystic Firestarter? Have to say though, I've not been entirely happy with the harness in comfort terms. Also find the webbing is very hard to tighten properly compared to my friends Dakine Pyro.

Bummer ! It will take around 3 months before you are over it, typically.
But you can start using a seat harness after a month or less.

Some of those who learned kitesurfing with waist harnesses and later had a bent or broken rib, where really amazed how good and free a seat where, as some has been told it was only for beginners and restricting. A bit funny how influenced of "talk"... But you know that yourself.

Short: Should be no problem starting early with a seat, and more comfortable.

if you are more comfortable with a seat, use it and don't listen to people.
Normally they don't have a clue!
get better soon!

Yeah, I'm certainly hoping to get back on the water in a few weeks using a seat harness (hence my other post on seat/ boardshort reviews). Gonna sell the waist harness for now to fund a pair of Nitrous shorts, or the Ion Apex.

Thanks for the well-wishes!

If its the cartilage at the lower front rib cage then it heals up like a wrestlers ear but about the size of a golf ball. Mine has shrunk a little over the last few years, but it never set at the same angle it was originally. Makes paddling on a surfboard a challenge but other than that its pretty cosmetic. Getting a decent nights sleep is the worst part for a month or so. Nitrous shorts will have you back on the water soon enough, but you might find yourself a little gun shy on the kiteloops.

Heal up.
