Here is a quick recap of the Lord of the Wind contest here in Los Barilles Mexico that finished up yesterday.
Johnny Heineken won and Damien LeRoy second in CR. Damien was over early in one race and would have won I think if he was not DSQ. The race was very tight at the top three positions between Adam Koch, Damien and Johnny. Adam had some bad or missed races at the end to put him out of contention for the top spot.
There were about 7 CR races and one slalom elim with Sean Farley winning the slalom and Jim Bison second. Conditions were extremely hard to ride in with very bumpy water and overpowered 9m weather most of the races. The Slalom contest was a 7 buoy downwind short course with very tight jibes and great action!
Big air contest was won by Rob Douglas and Damien second.
Cynbad Brown won the womens Courseracing.
There were not any printouts of the results, so I am not sure who won some of the disciplines.
Windsurfing CR and Slalom was won by Kevin Pritchard.
Windsurfing freestyle was won by Tyson Poor as well as the expression session for windsurfing.

The Big Event here was called the Lord of the Wind Showdown which was a winner take all cash purse of $3500 between Windsurfers and Kiters. The course was about 3 miles or 5-6 km upwind and then blast all the way back downwind to the finish. Conditions were really challenging and one of the windiest races we had all week.

Kevin Pritchard tried out his Formula board before the start but decided it was going to be easier to ride the slalom board and then proceeded to leave the fleet behind as the winds got even stronger half way up the course. Kevin had gotten beat badly by the kiters in a race the day before when the wind had backed off, but when the wind was howling, KP was extremely fast upwind when the cash was on the line.
The town of Los Barilles put on a great contest and it seemed that most of the townfolk were helping out with all the logistics or at the race site watching.

All in all, it was a great contest with fantastic conditions!

Yes, I have a 64 and a 69+ coming out soon. I have made them both for Aguera Designs and for Cabrinha.

CR boards here ranged from Damien on a CR 59 to Brian Lake on a 75 wide. There are tri's and quads doing well here in Los Barilles, Mexico!
Slalom was very challenging with super bumpy water and a very short course . Some marks were only 80m apart!
Boards ranged from twintips to slalom boards with tri fin arrangements. Most riders rode their surfboards or twintips because it was so knarly to get thru the course. The CR boards were almost impossible to ride thru the course at speed because of all the tight turns. Adam Koch tried it and even he could not do it!
Sean Farley won on his twin fin and sailed very consistently. In the Finals, he was going toeside towards the beach getting a little airborne for a couple situations and somehow did not eat it! I thought for sure he was going down, that is a testament to what a good rider he is!

Congrats Alex for winning heat 2 ahead of John and the racing ahead of Sean.

The slalom was all down wind or cross wind. 3rd place I think was a wake style with boots. The second park was just outside the break. Nice and close to the shore so it was a blast to watch. Down loop transitions and low kites in the jibe are a must with 3 guys coming tight on your but. Slalom is a blast to watch and a blast to race. I'll try and post the setup for the marks after work.

how did the format of the big air contest look like?

The Big Air Contest was run by putting all competitors into 4 qualifying heats and go out with a Shadow Box GPS unit attached to their boards to check how high they were getting up in the air.
Then there was a final with the highest jumps by I think 4 competitors qualifying. The finals were done a few days later than the qualifying heats. The wind was light next to shore for the Finals so the competitors went far outside to get some better high jumps.
