I'm going up there for a ski trip in a few days and wondering if there is anywhere to ride near Alyeska resort where I'm staying or near Anchorage itself. I know there's some sick kiting at Thompson Pass but that's like a 5 hour drive...
Thanks!

Just outside of Girdwood along the Turnagain Arm are a couple riding spots. I believe it is called 20 mile on the river. Up the road a bit further is Portage Lake at the base of Portage Glacier. Those are the closest spots.

Also make sure to get up to Turnagain Pass, about a half hour south. Great terrain if the wind is right.

- Local Beach: I live between Homer, Alaska, Washington, DC and Oahu, Hawaii.
- Favorite Beaches: I love kiting and teaching in places where the scene is just getting off the ground and everyone is psyched to learn. Personally, I like riding at my home beach in Homer, Alaska, snowkiting in Flagstaff, Arizona, and almost anywhere in the Caribbean. South Padre Island, TX and Cape Hatteras, NC are great for riding and teaching too. Now that we are in Hawaii a lot, I am really loving the small, tight wave focused scene on Oahu.
- Style: Anything with a kite.
- Gear: I ride anything safe and fun.

Moose Meadows in Girdwood offers a small area to kite in, and it's right there at Aly. Otherwise, you're in for 20-Mile, Portage, or Placer, all of which have iffy snow conditions right now. Turnagain Pass is in very good shape, and we are expecting an easterly to start today and go through Sunday. Should be great!
