Quick update: Yesterday the 21st was the first day of kite competition and we did the long distance channel crossing from the Island (Jacque Cousteau) to La Ventana. It is a 11 mile about 17 km of rough choppy water and around 20-22 kts of wind. Kite sizes ranged from 14m to 9m. Results were as follows for the Pro Men Kite division. (sorry I did not get the other results)
1st Johnny Heineken (raceboard) 2nd Damien Leroy (long distance surfboard style) 3rd Sean Farley ( I think his twin fin raceboard) 4th Alex Aguera (slalom board prototype) 5th Kent Marenkovic (long distance surf board style)
The race took around 22 minutes, one tack to the shoreline and then two buoy downwind to the finish.
I think that we have CR for today planned..
Aloha, AA

too bad I missed this evet... but Alex, could you share the fin setup you are using for a slalom board?
I have to believe it makes it easier to use on the buoys and maybe able to ride toeside?
Tabs.

Tabs. I am using a three fin setup that is much easier to jibe than the regular raceboard.

Yesterday was another good day of wind here in La Ventana with an Old School Big Air Contest and 5 Courseraces in the afternoon. Big Air was a great contest with strong performances by Shawn Richman, Damien Leroy, Sean Farley, and Adam Koch all in the finals. I am not sure if they released the results yet. Courseracing was done in overpowered 11m for the top guys and strong performances by Johnny Heineken, Damien Leroy, and Adam Koch all dominating the top three spots in that order, I think. I will try and get some of the videos I shot together and post them. The evening was highlighted by a Mexican Wrestling Show just like in the movie Nacho Libre! The whole town came out to watch the fun! AA

Yesterday was the last day of the competition and we did 5 more courseraces in lighter winds with 13-16m kites. Damien Leroy dominated and went to first place overall with Adam Koch and Andy Koch taking second and third overall. Johnny Heineken who had been leading the courseracing had to leave early to go back home. Brittany and Cynbad were first and second in the womens overall CR. The Big Air Freestyle results were Shawn Richman, Damien Leroy and Sean Farley in that order. All in all, it was another great Baja contest and the winds were here!

I got 4th though so not to bad for the old man.
