Truckin' thru Mich

Postby rvrrat » Wed Feb 02, 2011 10:15 pm

:bye: Hello Mich & Wics riders. I am lucky enough to be comin' into SW Mich and then over to Madison To deliver some kayaks after your big snow. I am want to ride at the dunes in Mich&Ind on my way thru. I would luv to get some beta on where I should go, or better yet, someone to hook up with. I am plannin' on parkin on 20 at the top of Ind and skiin' into the state park. Holler at me. JR

:thumb: WOW SW Mich was as good as I thought it would be. After what you told me about ridin' the snow covered dunes on the SE shores of Lake Michigan Robertovillate, I was even more excited about bein' able to come thru and ride. The snow was deep and soft and the wind comin' in side on shore was incredible. I am so used to mountain air. You all have some great kitin' around here. I here the Weather Channel and Jim Cantore are filming a segment on Ice Climbin' and Snowkiting in Marquette Mich. on Mon. I wish I had freight goin' up there. But it is off to Madison. Hopefully the forecast will be wrong and the wind will blow. JR

Hey JR,

Looks like you hit it perfectly!!! Thanks for posting the nice photos. I would have been there with ye but unfortunately it was one day I could not ride. Glad you had an epic session - it was great to hear the exuberance in your voice on the phone, like a kid who just got his #1 gift from Santa. :thumb: . Come back over next winter...hopefully we will get the same fantastic conditions as we have had this year...and I'm hoping to be on a pair of Lightning Boards.

safe travels - deep snow - and good winds

 On my way to Madison yesterdayI was on the hunt for some more. I knew it was gonna be hard to beat ridin' on the dunes. But ridin' is ridin'! My eyes caught this massive field next to the super coops at the 179 mm on I-90 westbound. The coops were closed so I thought I could pull this off with no drama. I parked at the back of the lot and climbed over the fence and got a great sesh in some fresh pow on a hard carveable base. The wind was lite but strong and clean enough to work with my 13m. Then it was off to Madison. And yes, I can drive a big truck in my tele boots. When I got to Madison I found a plowed lot downtown next to Monona Lake and finished my day with an evening sesh on the lake. The conditions were great. I was able to cross the lake a couple times before the wind died at dark and I skied back to my truck. Today its back to work and an afternoon sesh in Northern Illinois. I want to ride the dunes in Ind. tomorrow morning on my way back east. Looks like my next loads are gonna take me to Minn. Colo. and New England. Can't wait to go back to work. JR

 Yeah man, Whatever I got I like it. I am so glad to be rid of lift serve. Got home here at 1 this morning. But not after hittin' up some large fields along the Ohio Turnpike. I stopped at the Indiana Dunes National Seashore yesterday morning but conditions were a no go. So I thought I could find wind and good snow on my way home. The Buckeye delivered. My first stop was at the service plaza at the 50 mm on the east bound side. A short 50 yard walk thru a gate and I was starin' at this 1000 acre carpet of fluff on a thick carveable base. The new snow was about 6 inches deep pretty evenly laid out and the base about a foot. Another day on my 13. This make my 5th sesh in as many days truckin' thru from Mich to Wics and back to Ohio. Half way thru my sesh these 2 F-16 Falcons were doin' touchdowns at the nearby Toledo Airport. They flew over me a half a dozen times. I got one more sesh on the way home at the service plaza at the 100 mm eastbound. Another magic carpet ride with an awesome sunset. I got Tug Hill and Mt Washington in my sites next week. No big truck this time. Gonna get the camper out. Dealers are buried in snow and don't want any boats right now. March is gonna be busy. JR
