Kitestorm: Kite Swap, racing, demos ++

Postby stormboarding » Tue Feb 15, 2011 4:00 pm

We have just under 2 weeks to go until Kitestorm 2011 and I have some updates...

NEW this year: Kitestorm Kite Swap. Have gear you want to sell? Looking for used gear? On Saturday only, we will hold our first kite swap event. You are welcome to bring harnesses, kites and kiteboards to sell. If your gear finds a new home, you can choose 80% cash back or 100% credit with Stormboarding (we sell HQ, Ozone, Slingshot, Cabrinha, Litewave, Peter Lynn and Dakine) and take advantage of Kitestorm pricing on new gear. There is no additional fee to sell (or try to sell) your gear. See all Swap rules including an ongoing list of gear that will be there on: www.stormboarding.com/kitestorm2011.html

Pre-registration discount deadline extended: Register by Monday Feb 21 to save on your race registration.

Race schedule: worried that racing will take up all of your freeride time? Our plan is to race Saturday from around 10-12 and then from 1:30-3:30 and then Sunday 10-12. That will leave you time to freeride Sand Bar, chat, eat, check out the kite swap... Remember this year we have an 8m and under division, great for those of you with 7.5 Frenzies and Apexes. See all race rules and the notice of race on www.stormboarding.com/kitestorm2011.html

Race prizes: To the winner will go... the coolest goggles ever: a pair of the Recon GPS heads-up display goggles! We also have excellent prizes going deep into the fleet (last year every racer won a great prize) including a Peter Lynn Twister 5.6m kite, PASA memberships and more!

Dinner tickets: We enjoyed just hanging with kiters rather than stuffing into the pub and will have another Kitestorm dinner, videos and prizes running at the Best Western. See our web site for the menu. This year it is $12pp for hotel guests and those who pre-register. Send me a note if you are not staying at the hotel and would like to join us for the party. Last year EVERYONE who showed up walked away with a goodie.

Demos: We are very excited to have confirmed HQ, Ozone, Slingshot and Peter Lynn demos on the ice and hoping to finalize Cabrinha. Demos are free. You must have a helmet, your own harness and have registered and signed our waiver (available online).

New to kiting? While this year we are not running clinics, we will give you a how to kite orientation if you purchase a trainer kite at the event. Or, I still have some space on Thursday and Friday for full lessons that will make you eligible for demos.

If you have any questions, please get in touch (email is best): rachael@stormboarding.com

Hope to see you in 2 weeks.

Rachael,
I am psyched for another great event. Clearly, if the snow holds, this will be the best conditions ever!

I will post some photos from Sunday on the Stormboarding Fcebook page and will keep updating on Thursday and Friday.

As of this morning, it was mixed ice (some bumpy, some smooth) with frequent, small snow patches and bigger, fully rideable snow sections north and especially east of where we usually ride.

Looking warm later in the week with a chance of snow Friday.
