New Post on never ending San Juan Sessions

Postby Windzup » Fri Feb 25, 2011 5:14 pm

The other post was getting long to load with all the sick images... so I am starting a new post here from the past week.

The crew here in the San Juan's ROCKS! The folks here in Durango and Silverton have a great Snowkite scene. We were lucky enough to catch a red carpet welcome, with sleds fired up at the trailhead and tow ropes ready. Molas on day 1 and Red Mountain on day 2. Skies were blue with broken clouds. 360 degree views that are mind blowing. So MUCH TO KITE HERE!

At the bottom of the hill are numerous bars that all have SKA on tap... or mainline the fix directly at the SKA Brewery... I sucked off the mother ships teet, and I'm a better man for it.

Molas had 12 kiters riding all over the place, finding half pipes and wind lips, and fresh powder. Red Mtn had 10 of us up there, and gave us a great perspective of how big the place really is.

Here's some more pics.

Brian Schenck

Gang,
George B and I had another great day up on Red Mountain Pass yesterday 3-12-11. Bluebird skies, warm temps, and light but steady winds.

Looking forward to getting back out that way. Maybe a spring roady... I think I heard someone at SKA say something about a Corn Camp?

We'll bring our base camp tent, some kites, and a little bag of stoke.

Windzup,
Brian Schenck

BTW - not speaking for Chasta, but I think he was pretty jazzed on the San Juans. It was the highlight of his 2 week US tour, and we had a lot of good days in some rad mountains.

Well I think I can speak for the SW CO crowd and say we were all super stoked he came to visit...and everyone else that showed up for that epic day on Molas and the next on Red. Come on back!

Lizard Head gave it up today! 15 knots so steady that I thought I was in Ventana. Parker, George, and I got in a 40 mile day.
Can anyone guess what new toy purchase was authorized by my wife?

Nice Matt Hepp. I finally got myself out west here. I am settin' in Salida on my way thru in the big truck makin' some deliveries here in Colo. My route does not take me thru your area but I wish it did. I have been in touch with Chriscountry over here. Looks like all I can get is some flat lake action on Twin Lakes on my way over to Edwards and in Frisco on Fri. Nice to see you have some ridin' left. I dig the GPS stuff. JR
