The White Pass

Postby Weedy » Sat Mar 19, 2011 6:48 am

Well, I finally had to leave another great season in the San Juans and head back to work in AK. Fortunately, that means returning to the fantastic kiting of the White Pass. The snow has been pretty hammered by too much wind (yes, there is such a thing) but after a few inches of new last night, things improved quite a bit. Powers and I headed out for an evening session.

Here are a few more shots from up higher today on a solo mission. Sort of tough to capture much action without another kiter to focus on but its really about the terrain anyway. In the second pic the Klondike highway, where I parked, is visible in the distance about 1500' below. It was a really nice north wind and I was able to launch and return to the truck four hours later, fully powered. (Does it look familiar Glickster/jhirschi? wish you guys were here)

Keep this up and you'll become a frequent poster.

I hooked up with a few of the Kite Yukon crew for an after work, north wind, sunset session tonight. Wow, fantastic powder, sunset to the west, big moon rising to the east, and 4 really happy kiters. The venue is just above and west of the White Pass on the US/Canada border at about 4,000ft, looking down on the Chilkoot trail to the west. We ripped around until it got dark at about 8:45
