Cab Custom 144cm- too big for raileys?

Postby gavin feargrieve » Tue Mar 22, 2011 2:35 am

Never been soo disappointed . Bought boots and a 2010 Cabrihna Custom 144cm after a weekend in PEI watching some guys rocking it in boots. Got some advice on board size, but .... it ain't working out. I just can't seem to get the pop for doing big clean raileys with this board. I like the Custom for other things like ...kiteloops and powered landings. Have to wonder if the 136cm would have been the better choice. BTW, I'm 185lbs.

I also have a 135cm Airush Protoy which I have no problem doing raileys. But, you can't put boots on that board.

So, will practice and better technique overcome the larger board size? Or, should I just buy a 136cm?

Gavin,
The 144 custom is 100% okay for a guy your size. Dre (150-160lbs), Damien Leroy (150-160lbs), and myself (160lbs) use the 140 with no problem.
If you are having problems with pop it is probably just because you need to adjust.
A bigger board will INCREASE your pop once you get used to it.

If you downsize don't go to the 136, that is too small. You could do the 140 but I would stick it out on the 144.

Good luck!!

Thanks Jon, really appreciate your advice. I'll stick with the 144.

Personally, for choosing boardsize i'd like to look at one's lenght, rather than someone's weight.
For example riding a 144 custom but without using the wider/widest insert option, will result in a board that feels big. Mighter be harder to pop therefor.
How tall are you?

Man I have a 144 and I have no problem doing them. I'm 5'5" so pretty damn short. Sounds like your not powered up enough. You really need to lit to load the board up properly. The board pops so well raileys are huge and u can hold them forevevr.

Time to start working on POP!

Gav lets get into wakeboarding so we can practice when there's no damn wind or when the fog rolls in!

Soo, I've had some time to adjust to the 144cm. Throwing big raileys now and feeling pretty good. I've listened to the advice given and widened the stance (second widest) which feels better and seems to help. But the main adjustment is riding with more power and full commitment.

It's coming along nicely. Thanks.
