Monte Cristo

Postby jhirschi » Fri Mar 25, 2011 4:54 am

Spent Wed afternoon up at Monte Cristo, UT. Anyone ever kited up there? It's popular with the sled necks but there seems to be plenty of room. I wish the wind was stronger so I could have explored more. It was perfect for teaching my brother to kite. I could see it in his eyes....he's hooked!

looks very nice! Maybe you can add it to splocs.com ? Would be great to have it listed as snowkite location!

There's some question as to whether Monte is accessible anymore. As of December 2010, there was a posted No Trespassing sign, with a notice of a potential fine. Utah riders don't often ride there, so there's no update on whether this is still an issue, but for now, it shouldn't be posted as a public launch. :(

They are done installing the pipeline there.
It is wide open to kite.
But, unless the wind is very strong on the top ridges,
I.E. Powder Mountain 50 mph,
Then the winds are to light at this spot, Ant Flats.
It can be very fun spot, until the snowmobiles track it up bad.

We are not taking our snowmobiles up to the high country at Monte to kite.
