Youth Empire Camp in Haugastol

Postby Toby » Tue Mar 29, 2011 3:02 am

22 young snowkiters gathered at Haugastøl for the Youth Empire Camp, getting ready for Red Bull Ragnarok

22 young snow kiters in the age between 10 and 18, was this weekend gathered at Haugastol Turistsenter with the whole Hardangervidda mountain platou as their playground. Not since Remi Meum and Bjorn Kaupang was young and promising have we seen such an amount of talent in one place. The participants came from all parts of the country and was for the first time gathered to kite together and learn from each other. In addition, they had lucrative company by many international kite pro´s that are up at Haugastol these days to prepare for the Red Bull Ragnarok that is taking place this upcoming weekend.

In particular - the visits from Cabrinha team riders Susi Mai and Remi Meum was super popular among the youngsters. In addition local hero Bjørn Kaupang, Tuva Jansen and Petter Johnsen - whom are all top riders, was a huge inspiration for all the participants.

Martin Aune Østerdal and Camilla Ringvold, owners of the URGE kiteshop in Oslo and national Cabrinha dealers, took initiative and ran the camp.
- "It´s really fun to see how many young kiters that has been introduced to snow kiting and kiting in general in the last few years. We really believe that it is important for the development that we gather them, inspire them and let them inspire each other so that they want to continue and have fun with the sport. We are really grateful that we could get so many pro riders here this weekend - they were a huge inspiration for the young ones!! We are already in the making of a summer camp. This time we had a waiting list for the camp, so it´s definitely something that we see that young kiters would like to participate in." - Camilla Ringvold

- "This is from now on a tradition here in Norway! We welcome you all next year!" - Martin Aune Østerdal

That's great! The sport of snowkiting needs more of this kind of stuff. Someday we'll get something like this going in Montana.

Thanks for sharing.
