After last years success, hosting the Rodeo at Jackson Hot Springs over spring break as a season finale... this years repeat has been living up to all expectations.
Lots of kiters rallying in from all directions.... lots of caravans. The Rodeo participants represent a fine tuned breed of winter kiters that have the sport dialed. You can tell by all the various camper rigs and sleds that allowed the nomadic tribe to be a mobile command unit that moved with such ruthless efficiency, even military generals would be impressed.
So far, representing from Utah, we have had 3 days in a row, with Thursday and Friday being the best yet. Hit Monida Pass and scored north winds and cornice rides. Big Hole Pass on Friday brought 2 sessions, the earlier allowed for exploratory riding and gliding, the afternoon session warmed up and was a different style of fun.
Saturday brought an up and down morning session, with gusty winds. A 40mph plus polter-gust took out all the kites with everyone pulling safety's. One bar even broke this morning. A white out ensued and the caravan headed back to home base at Jackson Hot Springs. Full Bar and 105 degree temps made for a great afternoon session. As the weather cleared, half the posse headed back to Big Hole Pass as I write this.
Great People, Great Location, Great Vibe, Great Event.
