• Experienced race officials and international level jury
• Large grass rigging and launching area directly on the water and just 5-15 minute sail from the race course.
• Safety boats
• Prizes for participation and winners
• Come on out and enjoy the latest development in kiteboarding: RACING! Have the freedom to go upwind in any breeze and fully take advantage of all that your local body of water has to offer, all while going fast. There is a strong push to have kite racing at the 2016 Olympic Games.
• This event is open to all competent kiteboarders from any country.
• The waters off Kingston offer some of the best fresh-water sailing in the world. Located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario and the head of the St. Lawrence River, the combination of land mass, islands and thermal effects produce excellent wind and wave conditions with very little current. Winds during August are predominantly from a south-westerly direction, usually starting around noon during thermal days (Typical Kingston conditions). Water temperature will vary between 18 to 22 degrees (Celsius) with normal air temperature being 25 to 35 degrees. Daylight hours will be approximately 16 hours per day.
• The shore facilities at Portsmouth include event offices, boat storage, storage area for clothing/personal gear, internet café, change room facilities, cafeteria, boat and gear repair services and chandlery. Kite launching area is 1.5km from Portsmouth.
• Excellent night life & restaurants as well as beautiful scenic downtown Kingston.
• Cheap accommodations:
-walking directly to launching site: Queen’s University
-St-Lawrence College, 5-10 min drive
-Some university student housing for rent (houses, rooms)
• No wind days: Frisbee, wakeboarding, scuba diving, go-karts, etc...
• Racing along side of Olympic/high performance sail boats such as the Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 49er, 470, RS:X Windsurfer, 29er & 29erXX including medal races on the last day for the 49er and 29erXX.
• Possibility of board charters (to be confirmed)...
• Long term vision: hold an annual kite racing event and integrate into the CKA and IKA circuit.
