sizes of kites and restrictions ?

I am taking up racing this year, coming from a windsurf and dingy racing background I am looking forward to it!

Currently, are there any limits on kite and board size?

Equipment needs to be registered through the IKA registration scheme and be listed on the
IKA official production equipment list. They shall use the following box rule:

a. Max length: 1900mm
b. Max width: 700mm
c. Minimum weight: 4 kg for directional boards
d. Number of Fins / Retractable Fins: no restriction
e. Max Fin depth: 500mm
f. Max Kite area: 19sqm
g. Max number of boards to be registered per event: 1
h. Max number of kites to be registered per event: 3
i. Minimum number of similar boards produced to be considered production: 50

OK, IKA, PKRA, etc.
Wait untill it becomes Olympic and then you'll have lots of restrictions to very much "one brand" only :allbegood:

You are probably right about the Olympics ... if things ever get there.

About the IKA box rules, many, if not all international competition will allow for custom (non-production) boards and have a separate class for them. That is true at least for this (2011) year. The IKA has published a short Q&A article about it: "Production Division" and "Open Division" Ranking.
