New Revolutionary Quick Release?

Postby Toby » Wed Jun 08, 2011 2:10 pm

Core Kites just released their new bar...and added a new quick release.
Looks similar to all on the market, but to release you TWIST the release instead of pushing it up.

Will this be better than pushing up?

Should this be a new standard?

Let's discuss!

very good topic Toby, good job :thumb:

i think the Ozone quick release should also be considered for its super efficiency and works in any terrain even it is minus 12 outside or if it sandy....http://www.flyozone.com/kitesurf/en/pro ... loop/info/

Not seen it yet but in the situation where you are going to release, ie flying backwards, upside down at 25 ktsor getting dragged up the beach I would say a push away system would be a more natural movement than a twist of the wrist system. It might look good on paper but in reality things could be different but as i say proof is in the pudding and at least CORE are being proactive about safety and pushing design.

Push away quick release is intuitive.

Twisting release simply is not.

False innovation.

It is too soon to be talking about a new product becoming a standard. How long has it been out, how many folks have used it in varied conditions with success? Standards should be built on accumulated favorable performance proven over time. You often have to condition yourself to do whatever is needed to Emergency Depower your kite in a crisis. Analyzing things in an emergency usually doesn't happen fast enough to do much good. I am not sure that twisting is superior to pushing up which seems more intuitive.

Be sure to checkout the control bar Cabrinha has coming out for 2012, it has some impressive new features. Lots of innovation going on out there which is a good thing for kiters.

"push away" has been adopted by most companies, simple, working and safe for most.
One same reaction for all , avoid confusion.
As simple as red is left.
When in emergency while kiteboarding and need to release your kite and have to think if you're going to "push", "pull" or now "twist", you'll be screw, my 2cents. :argue:

Well I don't think that the twist system is bad. It's different from everything else and naturally people generally don't like change. I wonder if the twisting mechanism contains components that could jam up with sand particles? The rest of the bar I like very much. I like the way the centre two lines are positioned so that when riding single handed, there is only minimal distance of rope between your two fingers. I LOVED the core XR riot that I tested in 2010, but did not like the bar then and the way the three centre lines were setup. I like to ride one handed and the finger spacing was too wide having the 3 lines side by side. The airush that i am riding now is Ok, but i like the design of the core bar better. Also I prefer the clam cleat above the bar over the old fashioned and bulky straps. So that is another positive, however I would have really liked to see some red coloring on the left grip as that is something I find intuitive. Finally, I LOVE how core make a lot of effort producing videos of their products. In this day of multimedia, there is no reason why other companies shouldn't be doing the same. The core website is probably one of the most informative kite sites out there. For that they should also be applauded.

Twisting is not good!! Unatural movement=dangerous. A step backwards for core. Very stupid idea...

Nice bar design but I wouldn't buy it because of the QR design. Simplicty must go together with innovation and this is not the case :-?
